convert suspension fork to rigid fork
 

I know a lot of the commuters convert their hardtail to make it rigid, so what are good brands and where do i find em?

i made the switch on my old raleigh mtb a few years ago and it really does make a noticeable difference. unless you ride off road, suspension is really nothing but an energy suck and highly over-rated for street riding in my opinion.

i found a cro-mo rigid fork on ebay for around 30 bucks. it's pretty heavy, but my old raleigh is a 1" threadless so i was looking for a not all that common fork and when i found one on ebay, i snatched it right up.

If you look on Craigslist, you might find a cheap carbon fork, which will still make the ride comfy. It doesn't do anything for shock, like jumping a curb or going down a flight of stairs, but, it'll dampen road buzz and vibration.

Make sure you get a suspension-corrected fork. If you don't, it will throw off the geometry of your bike.

I started a similar discussion over on the hybrid section a few weeks ago. I haven't done anything about it yet, but I'm leaning towards replacing my suspension fork with a good steel one (like the Surly). http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...273&highlight=
