Rack for a backpack
 

I'm looking to put a rack on my bike so I can get my backpack off my back for the riding portion of my three prong commute. I don't keep much in e pack, just a few magazines, a tee shirt and my iPad so it's not too heavy. I've never had a rack of any kind so I'm really not sure what to look for. Thanks

I think you got it backwards. Rather than looking for a rack for your backpack, don't you mean you're looking for a backpack for your rack? The latter is the challenge.

I would think that you could bungee a pack to just about any of the racks that are out there. You will need to be carefull about the straps getting tangled in the spokes though so rap the straps up good. You may want to look into some of the more stylish "panniers" that look like messenger bags or briefcases though. Carry like a messenger bag but attach to the rack like a pannier for a more secure fit. Or do what I do and drop the bag into a pannier when I have the room.

Big Wald Basket on the front, or a Porteur rack perhaps?

I guess I have to ask. Why not just wear it? It's not like you're carrying a ton of stuff.

check out this pannier/daypack combo from MEI. one of my employees uses this and she is quite happy with the convenience of using it either as a backpack or on her rear rack.

You can probably strap your backpack to any rack with a cargo net. Cargo nets hold more securely than individual bungee cords.

Thanks for the suggestions I will check ose out. The reason I don't want to where the backpack is because of sweat. I'm only on the bike for fifteen minutes and without the pack on the only place I get at all sweaty is my head.

I commute with backpack strapped to the rear rack with 12" bungee net - check your local hardware store.
