Commuter Build Project
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...2mbcard001.jpg
I recently purchased a 2007 Kona Jake The Snake frame to build up as a light tourer/commuter. I would also love to try cyclocross next season. The frame is a 49cm but, I think it will be perfect because it measures the same size top tube length as my 54 cm 2010 Trek 520. I was worried it may be too small but when I set it next to the 520, it is almost exactly the same size except for a the bottom bracket being slightly higher. Even the HT and ST angles are quite similar. I love my Trek 520 and have been commuting to work regularly. I have it set up with a rack & trunk bag, full fenders, and a computer. I will use it for my gear hauling and rainy day bike. I want to build up the Kona as a light weight commuter and just keep it clean.....as in no rack or fenders etc. I will probably go with Shimano 105 group for this build. I hope to have it done for next Spring. Just thought I would share my new project with all of you. I'm very excited and will most likely be picking everyones brain with build questions in the near future:D |
It will turn out nice with those parts.
Don't forget your wheels. I have seen many build a great frame with good stuff, and skimp on the wheels. IMO; I would buy very nice wheels. Good luck and post pics when it's done. |
...any insight on a good wheelset---strong enough for tough roads and gravel paths and hopefully a CX race next year? I want to use a 32 or 35mm tire too and I have no idea if I should go tubular or not?
