Looking for advice on lights

Hi, I'm new to cycling in general and am looking to commute by bike. I'm currently shopping for lights and was wondering if I should spend the extra $40 or so to get lights with turn signals

or if regular commuting lights should be sufficient.

Thanks!

Hand signals are easy to do. I would rather spend the money on annoyingly obnoxious lights.

If you are not a spambot...save your money and put it into a good headlight and taillight.

+1 to that.

Save your $$$. Regular commuting lights is all you need (front and rear). For turning at intersections, make sure you learn how to use your arms (hand signals). For night riding (or commuting w/ rain), buy a pair of gloves that have some kind of reflective material so car drivers behind you understand where you're trying to turn.

I paid like 17 bucks for my light kit from Walmart and works fine for me. Each has three different lighting choices from a disco themed blink to a epileptic seizure inducing fast flashing to a solid beam for either lights.
