Parking bike rack recommendation

I'm looking on feedback on the pros and cons of different parking rack designs.

I'm fortunate to be working in an office where the number one in charge (until his recent retirement), and the second in charge are both cyclist who support commuting. Administration has decided to relocate the bike parking from a front car parking space to a spot in the rear of the building by the main employee entrance. The location is not accessible to cars, has greater employee foot traffic and is in less view by the public, an all around better place.

I've been asked to recommend the type of bike rack we should purchase. From your experience is there a better rack design than others? We've had the old grid style that works fine for my road/commuter bike, but others may ride in cruisers or mountain bikes and wide or knobby tires don't always mix with the vertical grid type. Ideally the rack would accommodate different types of bikes and allow locks to be used on the frame as well as wheels.

So, if you had the opportunity to recommend a design, what would it be and why?

Thanks

Here's a very fresh discussion of the same question:

Take a look at a Saris Stadium rack. They are well made & sturdy inverted U style racks.
They come in six and eight bike configurations - suggest the 8 bike unit.
