Coffee
I don't drink coffee to wake up in the morning. Actually, I'm not much of a caffeine drinker in general. (Though I'm not trying to be holier than thou about it! I enjoy an occasional social cup of coffee.)
However, once I got to college I thought I'd get turned on to coffee every morning. Instead, I found the ride to campus to be a great wake-me-up. The combination of the wind, attention increase (so I don't crash in traffic) and physical exertion seem to do the trick.
Tell me I'm not alone in this. Or are there still some coffee drinkers/commuters out there? If so, do you have a specially designed cup holder for coffee cups? I'd like to see some cool setups if you do. I've seen a few around campus and it got me wondering.

My last cup of coffee was in 2007. Not against it but I only drink it when Im livid, it calms me down.
I find riding is a great warmup/wakeup. I know when I drove to work (pedicab) my legs were stiff and I started off slow but when I rode, the ride was always easier.
Same thing about driving to the gym compared to riding to lead my spin class.
As for riding to school, I enjoy riding to school but Im not sure if it makes me any more alert than if I drove.

I simply can't function without my double-shot espresso, it's item #1 on my list of things to do after getting out of bed.
Get between me and my first morning brew and it will not end well, everyone in this house is well aware of that.

I drink it to keep me alert during the work day. I'll have green tea on my days off just because I like a little caffeine to start me off.
Here is a sweet coffee setup for the bike:

If I drink coffee I can work really fast, but I look at my work the next day and have to re-do it all.

Can't stand the stuff myself, and the teams nearby here are always brewing the smelly stuff. Ugh. It's almost as bad as the perfume lady that used to be down the hall. I think I need a separate ventilation system sometimes.

I drink coffee, but I don't have any until I get to work. Trying to picture myself drinking hot coffee while I ride conjures up memories of the Seinfeld episode where the marathon runner accidently grabs Kramer's cup of boiling coffee thinking it was water.

I have a tall, thin insulated cup with a lid that just fits in my bottle holder. I get several opportunities at red lights on the morning ride to sip my cup of steaming Peets French Roast . Yum!

I have a strange mental thing with coffee. I have yo have a cup in the morning to stay awake, yet I also drink a cup of that caffinated stuff in order to sleep at night. If I don't have a cup of coffee right before I sleep, it takes me longer to fall asleep. Go figure.

I tried drinking coffee before my commute. Once. Almost puked on the way in. Weird, eh? It just really upset my stomach.
It doesn't do too much for me, anyway. Wake-up or flavor-wise. I prefer triple shot mochas from Starbucks but they're freaking expensive, IMO.
I do have a 16oz can of "green" Monster every morning though. (Except when they were threatening to sue Rock Art Brewery!)

I don't drink nearly as much coffee as I used to, now it's more of a treat than anything. I drink Tazo green tea at work, gives me enough oomph to get through a day at my desk. On cold days, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing some coffee on a long ride, though. But I don't "need" it anymore.

Coffee rules - it is a principal truth of the universe. I don't need to it to wake up, but I is my morning/afternoon treat once at work. The ride to work in the morning is a good wake-me-up, and coffee is the cherry on the top of that sundae.

I'm a HUGE fan of these Contigo Travel Mugs, they stay warm for several hours and do not spill. We got rid of all the other insulated mugs in the house and only use these.

I need my morning coffee. I have found that waiting until I get to work to have any helps me get to work on time.
I have carried the paper-cup coffee in a water bottle cage, but I don't recommend it.

I'm with vtjim. the downside of cycling is that I can't tolerate coffee when I do it. Coffee before biking makes me feel queasy. When I get to work, I'll have some tea. It's sad because I love me some coffee. Really strong coffee. It's even starting to bother me on non ride days.

I have to have my 2 cups in the morning before I can safely operate the shower & my 3rd when I get into the office. It's rare - but has happened - that I'll ever drink coffee in my car but don't see myself trying to do so while riding.
The diuretic effect of coffee compounded with the colder weather is certainly motivational in terms of not dawdling on the way to work (wait till you're over 50 - you'll figure it out........)

I only drink a few cups a day, but without them I'm pretty much half awake. Coffee is like a turbo boost when I ride, I think I need another cup now.

~o) in my hand, now..
Trek dealer sells a spill resistant cup made to go in water bottle cages,
putting it in seat tube one seems best.

I don't need coffee to wake up, but I sure enjoy a cup in the morning. The aroma and the flavor...mmmmmm-mmmmm. If you know a place with a barista who knows what they are doing, and some good beans, an americano is divine.

I don't drink coffee and I'm not interested in developing a caffeine addiction, but on cold days I do enjoy some tea when I get to work.

I love coffee. It was a staple in my diet when I was and undergrad studying Management. Homework and Group work were common just about everyday. 5-6 cups per day just to get trough. Now I am down to one a day; two at most.
