If you get proper amount of sleep like the magic 8 hours, coffee is a waste of money. I only drink the stuff if I need to stay awake, but that hasn't happened since college.
If you drink it soley as a drug, than maybe. If you like drinking coffee - it's no more a waste of money than anything else people buy -- like 200 t.v. channels, expensive shampoo/hair products, a blackberry phone....etc.etc. does this really need to be pointed out? People "waste" money on tons of things that I can't possibly understand, but that's just the point: it doesn't seem like a waste to them.

It sure beats the hell out of smoking, excessive drinking, or any of the other dangerous behaviors people do on a daily basis......try to keep coffee drinking in perspective here folks!

I like coffee. The aroma, the taste, and the soothing warmth of it are real nice. I don't need/use it to stay alert or anything, I just like it. Especially on a cool day, the aroma and the swirling vapors coming of the top of the mug make it much more than simply a tasty beverage.

It's also a neat destination drink too. Sitting around and chilling out during/after a long ride while sipping some good coffee is a lot of fun for me and my riding buddies.

If I could find my bike before coffee, that might work.

I'm addicted enough to caffeine that if I don't have my 12 oz of black coffee in the morning, I get a pounding headache by early afternoon. I get a nice strong cup o' joe after getting to work. If I go for a weekend ride, it's after coffee. Never had an upset stomach either way.

I remember reading somewhere that caffeine actually helps speed up muscular recovery. Here's one source: link. Since I hammer my commutes, this seems like a pretty good justification for maintaining my addiction!

What he/she said!

I've never tried fecal coffee, but I sure would like to!

And, as an aside, the Reduce Everyday thermos is a very good, inexpensive means of transporting this nectar of the Gods.

I have about 1/2 to 1 cup of coffee 2 cups at most. I don't need it to wake up. Just think it helps me study and pay attention better. I sip. I don't guzzle it. It doesn't interfere with sleep.

I like coffee. I'm sure I drink enough that I would get a headache if I didn't drink it, but thankfully I haven't had the occasion to find out. I stopped drinking it a few years back and found life to be empty and pointless. I usually don't take coffee to work on my bike, but I do take my coffee cup in my water bottle cage.

I love coffee. I buy organic gourmet coffee from a company called Kicking Horse. My favourite version is called "Kick Ass". It's the kind of coffee that puts hair on your chest, as my old Gaffer used to say. Whole bean only; grind it just before brewing and then brew it with Brita-filtered water. Yummy.

I can't, however, drink it and then hope on the bike to go to work; it just makes me feel bloated. When I have a 7 am start I wait until my first break for a coffee and then I settle for good old Tim Horton's... a Canadian staple (almost a religion, really). It's the next best thing to my home brew.

I love coffee in the morning and at night as well. In the morning I get a small Cuban coffee colada, which is pretty much liquid crack. At night I like to have some regular brewed coffee and the funny part about it is that it makes me sleepy lol

Of course, it was parked in front of the local, hipster coffee place. Surprisingly, their coffee sucks but the lighting is great, as is the people watching. So tons of people flock their to study, sip awful coffee and study. I digress.

The setup on this bike appeared to be a metal cup holder mounted to the handlebars. It looked sturdy and stable, but I imagine quick turns might cause a spill problem. The cup holder looked like it had some fancy cushioning in it to grip the cup. The bike had super-wide cruiser bars, so the cup holder took up little space.
Love your sig! BTW, where's that pic you promised?

Great movie, BTW. Good chemistry between these two accomplished actors.

I love coffee. On days I ride, I wait until I get to work to get it. What I really want is one of these little beauties from SOMA.

Well, I haven't seen that bike since ... I last saw it. I also don't frequent that coffee house primarily because I don't drink coffee. Don't get me wrong, I've kept my eyes peeled. As soon as I see that cup holder, you'll see it too.

Thanks for digging my sig. It's what I say when drivers yell at me for being on the road. Or I just wave and smile.

Worship the bean.
But, it's like a treat, usually already wide awake when I prep a cup.
It's all about the taste for me, not the caffeine buzz.

More odes to the deliciousness of coffee..........

I find the lightest roast I can, since the longer beans are roasted the more caffeine burns off. I make a pot of strong brew and drink two big milky cups before taking off on my commute at 5:45 am with a Starbucks thermos in a pannier for when I get to work. After lunch I drink a bottle of Mexican Coca-Cola, the kind with cane sugar. That keeps me going until quitting time. When I get home I drink a few beers before and with dinner, then to bed at 8 pm. I never catch a cold, even though I work with high school age kids all day. At 54, I weigh only a little more than I did in college and I can drop riders half my age. The bottom line: I want my coffee in the morning and my beer in the evening!

Has anyone posted 'Too Much CoffeeMan'? https://www.tmcm.com/
Excellent comics.

As far as real coffee, I am very partial to Peet's, myself. I drink gallons of the stuff. While it is true that a lighter roast has more caffeine, I still prefer dark roasts. What I lose in concentration, I make up for in volume.
Cheers,
Jason

My Gevalia thermos fits in my bottle cage. It's a bit of a squeeze, but that's good because I know it's not going to come out.

I was worried about that myself. With some consistent therapy and willpower I've been able to shake the habit and now can get through the morning just fine, all they way up to my 11am martini, without any coffee at all.

A nice loose leaf tea is all I ever need. Irish tea from a company in Canada is wonderful. I haven't met a coffee I like.

Cheap plastic gas station mug. Fits right in my cage, nuke to reheat when I get to work, don't care if it gets lost or broken.
