Moved from an industrial park in Addison to West Chicago in 1991. As mentioned in another post, the bicycle had been featured in Popular Science Best of What's New, and they needed a bigger facility. I can still remember the smell of those Italian beefs from a little stand down the street!

Just picked one up yesterday. The belt that surrounds the rear cable is deteriorating. Does anyone know where to find a replacement. If I can't find one, I'm going to use a regular brake cable and find some type of sleeve to go over the cable. I don't think just regular cable housing will work.

It's always interesting to me to see engineering solutions that aren't evolutionary, but come from an utterly different approach. I love Swedish cars for the same reason. Thanks for sharing these.

The belt covering the cable is “Kevlar”.... the cable exposed will DIG into the aluminum rim & destroy it.... it is the kevlar covering that make the rim band brake work- it doesn’t wear the unique rim providing large diameter surface to brake so effectively with minimal wear to the Kevlar material as well.... clearly though, the covering on yours has degraded & I believe you will definitely NOT want to use alternative materials like cable housing... you will not be happy with the results. Sorry to be bearer of such bad news. The cable is not supposed to contact the rim directly & anything other than Kevlar will likely not provide the kinda friction the unique properties it offered while mostly resistance available to premature wear on the aluminum rim

FWIW- As best I recall, after The Yankee Bike Co got out of marketing their bike.... it was “Nordic Trak” exercise equipment manufacturer who marketed it for a short while thereafter... dunno if that might lead you or anyone looking for spare parts or not (??!)

Thanks for suggestions. I'll do some searching today and see if they're still in business and if they have spare parts.
