Oh the irony...

Had my first true near miss today on the commute.

So at a stop light behind a couple of cars on my way home today, the light changes, traffic rolls forward, I look down to catch the other pedal (still getting used to clips again), hear a honk, look up and yeah, cars are at a dead stop. I nearly ran into the back of the car in front of me.

The cause for the near miss? Two bicycles crossing the street in the pedestrian lane when the cars (making right turns) had the right of way. I won't hold it against them. they were just cruising on cheap mountain bikes, I don't expect them to be taking the lane, etc. I saw them, but thought they'd have enough sense to try and not get hit by jumping out in front of traffic. Silly me.

It's okay, the 0-mph tumble have not gotten the best of you....yet.

I don't understand the term "near miss", wouldn't it be a near hit if it missed...just being silly.

Thank you, thank you.

I saw your bike over at SSFG the other day, very nice conversion.

Close call. Also, watch out for those cars that don't signal their turn. Could be a nasty surprise.
BTW, a near miss means a close miss. As in, that car closely missed that bike. It could work the same way if one used hit instead of miss. Nice Carlin reference nonetheless.
