it was raining sideways yesterday morning so i took the train, this morning there was alot of debris flying around, so again i took the train. i feel so fat and lethargic after missing 2 days of riding. :(
windows at work sound like they are about to break from the wind downtown |
I rode yesterday and today. It has been fun in the morning, but my commute in the evening is 15 miles SSW, so yes, it sucked. My quads were screaming "um, can you give me a break please!". Should be another memorable ride this evening.

I rode yesterday. It was tough going into work, but the winds weren't as strong as they would get and it wasn't raining that hard. My glasses were covered with drops, though.
Luckily, my ride home was to the east and the rain had mostly stopped at 5pm, so I got blown home. At one point, I had to go south for one block, and I thought I was going to backwards when a gust caught me. |
Indeed it has been windy in the midwest, I got out on the Chicago lake front path on the skates today, quite the work out. I was pissed my bikes aren't in working order right now, I was fiendin' for some well earned tailwind action!!! So jealous of the few riders I saw out today and yesterday! Although I sure wasn't missing traffic riding in massive crosswinds, that sh*t is tricky, demanding and potentially very dangerous.

I rode too work yesterday sans any real rain gear and on a fender-less bike. It was foolish to put it mildly =). By the time I went from uptown to the east bank of UMN, I was soaked. I got there fine, but man was I wet. All my stuff was still dry at the end of the day, so I copped a ride from a friend. I sort of wanted to bike today, but a) my bike was at home and my beater was flat, and b) being real lazy last night my laundry stayed undone, so my underarmor/layering gear for the cold was still soaked.
Hoping tomorrow will be my last bike-less day for a while. I was all gung-ho to ride through the winter again, but it was all too pleasant on the 2 with some coffee, a book, my music, and people-watching. Hope I haven't lost my nerve! |
Just pick an easier gear, keep pedaling and both hands on the bars at all times... lots of trees down around here also.... weather bomb!
|
I decided to go for it despite the winds and for the most part it was fine. We had winds around 30-40 with gusts well over 50. Today was the first day that I had to pedal DOWN a hill to keep from stopping. Something seems so wrong about that.

the ride in this morning was miserable. the wind slowed me down to 60 minutes whereas my normal pace is 50 minutes.
|
Finally, no wind this morning, but 20º F. Five layers, neoprene booties, my new Descente Wombat gloves with mini corn bags in the faux mittens, fleecey windstopper leg warmers, and the first sighting of the balaclava.
It may as well have been summer :D |
^ man, it's already that cold out in colorado? that's surprising. here in chicago, it was 48 degrees when i left my home this morning (our coldest morning of the season so far) so i'm still riding with just shorts and a long sleeve t-shirt.
|
It has been a weird week. 50º on Monday, 36º yesterday, and today was an aberration. I'm no meteorologist, but methinks the departure of the wind allowed the cold air to settle like an icy blanket on the region. We'll warm up a little before the cold settles in for the winter.

rode today. it's still a bit windy, but not too windy to ride
lots of debris, glad i wasn't riding while trees were falling and trash cans bouncing across the roads |

There was a guy there with a TV camera and as I pull up he says: "You're going to have to turn back. There's no way you're going to get through that." After he sees me get off my bike and start to walk around the tree he says: "... or you could just walk around." ;) |

Funny! They showed the owner on tv and he said he didn't have any insurance to cover it and was hoping the homeowner's policy might....
