just got them, after shopping around for a while. i like them so far, very promising for year round commuting and adjust socks for precipitation, temperature.

was using waterproof sneakers this past year. but having two pairs of sneakers was getting cumbersome

Has Keen ever come out with wide sizes? If not, I'll just have to stick to Shimanos...if my arches ever let me go back to sandals for more than short rides.

I've never understood wearing sandals on a bike. I'll add that I'm the sort of person who has two pairs of shoes, total (apart from bike shoes), so it might just be that I'm not a shoe person. What advantages do bike sandals offer over enclosed shoes?

they can dry out quickly when you arrive at your destination after a ride in rain. variety socks give you a lot of flexibility to really customize the warmth level at any time.

I've started liking wearing sandals in the summer so that my feet don't get so sweaty. It would be nice to have clipless sandals, too.

I love my Keens and I have been thinking about the SPD sandals myself.

I wore mine all summer. They felt good with the air blowing through them. Benefits: what nish2575 said + put on same colored socks and wear them around the office, great quality, will last for years before wearing out, and good toe protection.

Those sandals are ugly! Being that I have narrow feet and like to air out while riding, I too went ugly by buying a pair of Keen Commuters. While I hate the look of these sandals, they are very comfortable to ride and walk around in. They are so airy that I used them during a half Ironman and will use them in a few weeks during an Ironman. I wish Keen would bust out with an attractive cycling shoe.

My only bike "shoes" are Keen Commuter sandals. I use CB eggbeater pedals. I love the air blowing through my toes in the summer (no socks), and even in the cool weather. For winter I've been using some XL-sized Pearl Izumi booties (heavy-duty), which fit snugly over the sandals, and keep me warm enough for the 6-mile ride only using light cotton socks.

I have SPD cleat compatible cycling sandals from Keen, Shimano and sixsixone, all with cleats installed. The Shimano and Keen are both good cycling sandals IMO with soles that are stiff enough to prevent developing a hot spot but the soles are not too stiff for walking. The 661s need a stiffer sole in the area the SPD cleat mounts to.

The Shimano and 661 are wider and less enclosed than the Keen sandals so are better for wider feet. The Keen Commuters are narrower enough so I had to buy larger sandals than the other two to get adequate width.

Bike rides in the summer are much more comfortable with sandals rather than shoes and socks. I had to take my bike home on the subway on one of the first hot days this year because my feet were boiling inside my socks and skateboard shoes. I was afraid to take off the shoes to cool my feet because I thought they'd swell up.

I wear Teva Terrifies (or some spelling like that) sandals on regular pedals. They have adjustable velcro straps across the toes, back of the heel and around the ankle for a nice snug fit without strangling my feet (if feet could be strangled). It had rather decent arch support, at least for my flat, wide dirt clomping peasant feet.

I've started using the Nashbar Ragster II Cycling Sandal. I use them with CB Mallet pedals. I have always had trouble finding shoes that fit my feet (my right foot is wider than my left foot) and have been using custom shoes from D2 but these sandals fit nicely right off the rack and are also very comfortable to walk in. They do not have a very stiff sole but with the Mallet that is not really a problem because there is a wide platform and you can clip in. They are currently $49.99 and with an additional 10% off (the current Nashbar sale) they are probably the least expensive cleated bike sandal.
