Which fenders?
I am thinking of buying a pair of fenders for my Trek 7.5FX.
Could you please help me to choose? What should I take into consideration when choosing? Suggest me some good ones... |
i have no idea yet

I like Planet Bike fenders myself.

I think I am the only commuter I know of that does not use or like fenders. I do get some road spray but not much more than I do when I ride a bike with fenders and I dont get that irritating giant drop that builds up in front of the front fender and blows up in my face every few minutes. I say no fenders.
|
doesn't matter really - just get them on :-)
|
I personally run Woody Fenders since they're unique. I like contributing to small shops. Planet bike fenders, however, are also nice since they are durable and don't rust.

Black fenders make your bike go faster.

Planet Bike Cascadia fenders are very nice. Don't underestimate the value of a really long mud flap, otherwise you might end up with the strange notion that you don't get much less road spray with fenders than you get without them.
|
Maybe that is what is wrong with me.

I've used the planet bike fenders in the past. I don't like the extra weight or how cumbersome they can feel. However they did a great job of keeping the salt and stuff off of me and the bike during the chicago winters. Also I liked how easily I could put them on/take them off.
Now that I'm in seattle, I plan to upgrade to crud roadracers. I'm sure I'll sacrifice some coverage for better fit, less toe overlap, etc. |
plus the roadracers look awesome. http://www.crudproducts.com/products...acer/roadracer_

Berthoud in stainless steel or carbon fiber, http://www.wallbike.com/catalog/components/fenders
Velo Orange and some other sellers offer Japan made aluminum ones. Randonneur- Brevet-Audax sorts like those metal fenders. |

Brand doesn't matter. They all work.
You can make your own mudflap. |

Another vote for Planet Bike Cascadias; I have them on two of my bikes. Great bang-for-the-buck!

especially if you wax them! :)

Get some that will cover the widest tires you can fit in the frame. It's kinda silly to have a frame that'll take 45mm tires but the fenders nearly rub on 28s. That way you'll always have plenty of fender if you decide to try other tire sizes.
|
D'oh!
You're right, and I have very narrow wheels and tires on my Surly Cross Check but now I'm thinking I'll put wide tires on at some point. Well, I guess I can move the fenders to another bike. |
^^^^ Yup. I had a bike with some narrow fenders that occasionally rubbed on some Schwalbe 28's no matter how I set them. The commuter I use now has fenders that look like they'll handle 45s. I might try fatter tires if/when the current 28s wear out.
