GT Traffic line...

Anyone have one? I visited the GT site, but images wouldn't load for some of the models. Here's a link to the 2.0 so that the frame can be viewed, but the one that I'm thinking about is the 3.0. The frames (I'm thinking that they are the same throughout the line-up, but with different hardware hanging off) feature internally routed cables. Not sure if that is a plus or not. Also have no idea of how heavy the stock bike is...

Bikes: 2010 Kona Dew Drop (the daily driver),'07 Specialized Roubaix (the sports car), '99 ish Kona NuNu MTB (the SUV), Schwinn High Plains (circa 1992?) (the beater)

Wow -- what a poorly constructed website.

Bikes: Tons

If you want one, the best source of information is going to be a bike shop that carries one.

Yeah, but unfortunately the only LBS that can get one in town gets their info from the website.

Even though they list GT as one of the brands they sell, and being the second largest in terms of square footage (only Sun and Ski is bigger), they don't actually stock them. They keep a couple of Schwinn cruisers in the back corner and a few Day6's up front, the rest of the floor offers mostly Specialized and Giant, with a few Orbeas and Lightspeeds thrown in.

The main thing that attracted me to the Traffic series was the internally routed cables. Only other bike that I have actually laid me eyes and hands on that has the internal cabling was a '10 Trek Valencia that I saw yesterday. That thing was lighter than my current bike, but they were also asking $719 (or $729) for, which is just too far out of reach.

Okay, so I went to a couple of bike shops today. Actually got test ride a '11 Specialized Sirrus Sport. Talked to that shop for a bit and even dragged my Smoke out of the back of the Suburban to show what I had and what I dlsliked about it. First thing the guy said was that I was too stretched out, which after trying out the Sirrus before he made that comment... I think he hit it on the head.

Then I went to a Trek store and straddled a 7.5FX (only model in the line in my size on the floor). It didn't feel as comfortable as that Sirrus did. Then I went to check out a Giant Escape, but the shop was busy and my kids were getting a little antsy, so was unable to even swing a leg over the top tube.

The shop that can get the GT mentioned in the OP also deals Specialized and Giant. I know that they have both the Sirrus and Escape in my size in stock, even if they aren't the particular model I'm looking at. Now I'm wondering if I should ask him to bring in a GT Traffic for me to look at- with the understanding that I would purchase one of the three models- Giant Escape City for $500, the GT, or a Specialized Sirrus Sport (no link for now as the Specialized site is down for remodeling).

One other thing (and kinda hard to figure out with the Specialized site being down) is one guy at that shop told me that the Giant was better all the way around- frame, components, price... everything. Dunno, but I can at least compare the two side by side, and test ride them back to back over the same route (though not my usual commute corridor), and possibly even make it a three-way shoot-out if they can get that GT.

The last time I looked at the GT Traffic 3.0 I thought it was a good bike from a value point of view. I mean you have the "newer technology" cassette in the rear instead of a freewheel and threadless headset instead of a threaded headset. So, upgrading it might be more realistic than a Wal-Mart bike where you have to totally change the wheel in the rear in order to have a cassette etc.

Yeah, it drew my attention as the frame allowed to upgrade to disc brake in the rear, it featured Pinhead locking skewers, as well as a couple of other things that caught my eye. Unfortunately, it would be akin to a special order at the one shop that can get GT in my town, so I've eliminated it from my list.

But thanks for posting anyway!

Why do all GT bikes have that really ugly rear triangle thingy going on?
