Basket pothole damping

I have a basket in the form of a milk crate on the rear of my bike but when i hit pot holes everything in the basket goes pretty crazy.

I was wondering if anyone had a similar front/rear basket system with some sort of damping?
Note: I've had sucess with cardboard/foam in and under the basket.

A net something one of these might work

[I don't have one of these, I'm a happy Riv customer]

in any case, stuff is going to bounce around unless you tie it down somwhow.

A simple net or even a garbage bag over the top should work. And don't hit potholes (hopefully you are not aiming for them). Otherwise you will have more to worry about than what's in your basket.

I don't know about dampening, but to keep things from going crazy and flying out my wife has a net like the one in the post above, but its a motorcycle net I got for like $4 at Harbor Frieght. Suprisingly my wife doesn't think its ghetto.

In my folding basket on my bike I put things in a bag of some sort and then I secure it with a D-ring belt I had lying around. Works great and my stuff doesn't move around. I bought mine years ago for a real belt, but here are what they look like. There are plenty of straps of some kind you could use to keep things solid.
