Waterproof breathable AND stylish pants?
 

I'm looking for some waterproof breathable pants for commuting to work. Does anyone make pants that are styled to look like casual slacks but have a Gore-Tex or similar waterproof breathable lining? With normal belt loops, normal looking rear pockets and seams? Something that I could just wear at the office or out to a restaurant. Or: has anybody tried waterproofing a pair of normal slacks or jeans with that spray stuff that you use to re-waterproof a used Gore-Tex jacket? How well does that work?

In my experience you can't really have waterproof and breathable...gotta choose one.
I have a pair of waterproof pants that might as well let water in considering how moist they are on the inside after a ride....I guess it's a comfort knowing it's my moistness?? err....

Had to use the rain pants I bought at walmart for the first time today. Really wet ride on the way home. Kept my legs completely dry (except the top of my ankle area). $20, just put on like regular pants over whatever you're wearing, but don't have to remove your shoes or anything.

I'd much rather be able to wear whatever pants I want than to buy a bunch of new rain-proof pants.

I think the OG 4 Season sounds what you're looking for, but there are plenty to choose from.

They're not waterproof, but one of the better ideas I've heard for commuter pants are golf pants. Don't choose these:

I got so lucky on a pair of rain pants in the gold section of a Dicks Sports. They were originally $149 FootJoy waterproof pants. Feel real comfortable. Got em for $17 in a clearance bin. I know they are technically golf pants but they work great

These are goretex softshell pants. Waterproof, bomb proof, and breathable, but slightly insulated.

Damn Dood. Those $350 pants cost more than my entire commuter bike. I'd have to get them insured in order to wear them.

How about snowboarding pants? Only thing that would suck is that some of them flare out near the bottom. You can always get straps for your lower leg.

Says Waterproof, Breathable, Fully seam sealed. Looks somewhat decent.

I'm talking about the grey one. Not the strawberry shortcake red one. You might look like a thug though with them baggy pants.

I sweat like a pig, this is my experience too. Same when I go XC skiing. For OP, GoreTex and similar layers do work for many people (those who sweat less). And in my case, the biggest difference between the expensive Goretex / Event etc stuff and the cheap knock-off breathable shells seems to be quality and durability. I haven't noticed any meaningful difference in breathability, in that regard they've all been equally bad in my use.

This + rain boots. I pull the rain pants over the rain boots and I don't get wet at all no matter what.

If you really want waterproof it will be hard enough to get stylish let alone breathable :)

On the other hand I find that my rain pants aren't too bad, even though the fabric isn't breathable because they have slits on the side that act as vents, but there's enough overlap in the fabric that no water gets in.

My waterproof pants are anything but breathable but when i need to wear em i try to wear shorts or just boxers under them, it doesn't seem to matter how cold it is, i wore em last week at 4f with nothing but boxers under them and after about 5min i got warmed up and still ended up sweating. Why is it they have no problems making waterproof and at least somewhat breathable jackets but not pants?

Yeah, but the OP specifically asked for stylish along with waterproof and breathable. Also, I got mine for half the list price - they were on clearance at REI. :D

Rapha pants with Schoeller fabric are water resistant.

+1. They say goretex breathes, but I find it doesn't do it well-enough for athletic activity. It does block rain pretty well though.

You can't have it all man ;). The other day a dude posted about how to make his track bike more like an English 3-speed ;0....this kind of reminds me of that, but this is much more reasonable.

I have some waterproof Sombrio downhill mtb pants that look like 'normal' pants but they trap moisture (not breathable) and the waterproof lining makes the pants kind of noisy. Waterproof or breathability; I would rather have breathability.

You could try some of the Swrve pants. They looks sort of normal though pricey.
