I get to see another bicyclist commuter in that stretch. He is only about 10 years old and he ride by himself on a bike that is much larger than he but has plenty of room for growth. He had a rack with his backpack and books. I can tell he is very much into the bicycle commute thing by the the expression on his face. I see a better future for bicyclist commuter paved by him everytime I see him. :)

That's a great one :)

I have a nice 1/2 mile long descent on the way to work that is nice. i can easily get above 40 mph (they had one of those signs up that tell you how fast you are going this summer). It is not quite as much fun on the trip home, however.

I love those signs

I sense so many things I wouldn't in a cage. I think the best is when I'm ready early and add several miles out of my way then go back to the "regularly scheduled programming" of my day. It is a quarter mile from the house to get out of the city limits. Sometimes it is whitetail deer, or wild turkeys, or the time a white striped cat crossed in front of me in the half light of dawn. Nice kitty!...didn't spray me. The turtle I helped across the road. I like to get to work before most of the others too. I get rid of stress either part of my trip.

Elementary student at school: "I saw you riding your bike!"
Me: "Was I going fast?"
Student: "Yes."
Me: "Good answer."

Student: "What's that thing on your helmet?"
Me: "A mirror?"
Student: "So you can see if the cops are following you?"
Me: "Yep. That's why."

"Why is my name on your bike seat? And they forgot the E" (asked by Brooke)
"Why is my name on your wheels?" (asked by Alex)
"Why did they spell my name wrong on your handlebars?" (asked by Richy)

Parent at school: "So I see you ride your bike to school. You must live here in town."
Me: "No, I live in Davis, actually."
Parent: "That's amazing!"

it depends on the route I take. there's a park I can go by with a pond and ducks that I feed if I remember to bring any bread. I love the smells as I ride past Ted's Hot Dogs. always lots of birds and flowers in the office park I go through. I don't use that route anymore, but lots of beautiful women around the ASU campus.

I ride through new-ish surburbs (1980s and 1990s) for the first 8 miles of my commute, then the last mile or so (my favorite part) is a quiet, gradual coast down through the "old suburbs" of lovely, charming houses and huge trees. I could never afford to live there, but I visit them everyday for free!

My favorite part is a stretch that runs parallel to the west runway at Love Field. Its pretty cool to watch and especially listen to the planes taking off about 150 yards from me. Southest Airlines is based out of Love Field and for some reason I'm always facilitated when I see there Shamu painted plane (http://www.southwest.com/images/phot...ery/shamu1.jpg). Also, I saw Air Force 1 taking of during an evening commute once.

they best part is as I ride by an elementary school as they are getting out for the day. Its great to hear "Wow he's riding a bike!", then I get to ride along with about four or five fourth graders for a block or two. It's truly a pleasure to be young for a few moments every day!
