OT. Family pet passed

I know its off topic but our cat and passed away last Friday. Its been a tough week around our house. My wife and step daughter got this guy as a kitten about 3 months before we got married nearly 15 years ago. My daughter was six when they got him so she grew up with him. He was the best cat I had ever come in contact with. I was not a cat lover when she got him so I was not too thrilled she didn't mention it to me before she got him but he won me over. I am not ashamed to admit I have shed a lot of tears this week he was as much a member of the family as any of us are and the house seems so empty without him. So here is to my furry little buddy may he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear that, Stringbreaker. I hope your cat didn't suffer. I'm sure you'll have memories of him for a long time to come.

Very sorry to hear about your kitty. We have two older kitties, 8 and 10 years old. They are both frisky and healthy but I'm aware that before too many years they will be gone.

My SIL had one of her Yorkies put to sleep this past week and she took it hard. It was her first dog that she got 15yrs ago.

I'm sorry to hear too. I had to deal with the same thing with my 14 year old cat last Oct. I did a lot of bawling myself.. especially the day the vet had to put her to sleep. She was my best friend since she was a kitten. Moved with me from NC to L.A. and everything. I'm familiar with that empty feeling. It took a long while before coming home from work to an empty house felt at least semi-normal. I have another cat now, because a friend's cat needed a home and knew I'd give him a good one, but I still think about and miss Blink.

Been there done that. I feel for you. They do become members of the family and to lose one is tough.

I'm very sorry for your loss, stringbreaker. My pooch passed away this Sunday. He was almost 13, and we'd been together since he was 8 weeks old. Losing him has been really tough. I understand what you're going through. I wish you and your family the very best.

This thread is making me sad. Brings back some good memories of family pets along the way and reminds me to savor the few years we have left with the cat my wife had when we moved in together. The cat's 11 now and in good health, so I'm hoping for at least another five.

Thoughts and condolences go out to stringbreaker and CB HI for their losses. Pets are amazingly special. May you be left with lots of happy memories of them.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. Cats truly are wonderful creatures, and make our lives better. My girlfriend and I have two cats- they're brothers that I got as kittens from a colleague at work. Like you, I was not a cat-person when I got them- and my girlfriend was really ticked when I brought them home- but now they are our best friends.

Here's to your departed buddy.

Sorry for your loss Stringbreaker, and also for the others who've recently suffered a similar loss.

As a lifelong pet owner I've had quite a few furry family members leave sooner than I'd like, but I take comfort in knowing that I gave them the most happy and loving environment I could. My cats and I will raise a toast of milk to you tonight

Sorry to hear of all these furry losses.

I volunteer each week at a no-kill cat shelter in town so sometimes I think I wouldn't react too much if one of my 3 cats passed away becasue I am used to cats I bond with to a certain extent coming and going. Then one of my cat had some issues and wasn't eating much at all and we didn't know why exactly. It freaked us out a little because, um he usually eats too much if anything and had lost weight. After some treatment he is doing well and looking sleek. =) I know now when that time comes hopefully many years from now its going to be really hard. I was weird thinking how it would be not to have that goofy black cat in the house. So once again my condolences

Feelin your pain. A pets death leaves a hole in you for sure. Its getting better but my daughter wouldn't hardly talk about it till yesterday. We are going to meet a couple of kittens on tuesday at their foster home. The organization is called kindred souls or hearts I forgot but a really good organization. My son and daughter in law got one of their cats from them.

Saw this on one of our bicycle forums.

And God asked the feline spirit,
"Are you ready to come home?"
"Oh, yes, quite so," replied the precious soul,
"And, as a cat, you know I am most able to decide anything for myself."
"Are you coming then?" asked God.
"Soon," replied the whiskered angel,
"But I must come slowly, for my human friend is troubled
For, you see, she needs me, quite certainly."
"But doesn't she understand?" asked God, "That you'll never leave her?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed? It just is....forever and ever and ever."
"Eventually she will understand," replied the glorious cat,
"For I will whisper into her heart that I am always with her,
I just am....forever and ever and ever."

My condolences.

I haven't had a pet since I was very small, and we've adopted a black lab. He was at the shelter b/c someone noticed that he has hip problems. I know they'll be too much for him someday, but I'm so glad to have him and enjoy his love and attention. I think animals show us a different facet of love that we otherwise wouldn't be exposed to otherwise.

Sorry to hear about the cat. I think it's cool that you cared that much for your pet. Real men (and women) aren't afraid to care for what's really important.

A few years ago when my dog died I found some comfort making a scrapbook of photos, a slideshow to music, and this photo memorial.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Diabloscott my wife got a bunch of pictures and put them in a photo album. Very cool to see him from when he was just a kitten till just about 2 weeks before he passed. He didn't have any indications of having any illness he was ornery and demanding as ever right up to the time he passed.
