Reflective Tape?

Anyone know where i can get a big piece of reflective tape like you see on jackets? I want to put a big piece across my bag. Does the LBS sell this or do you find it at some sort of fabric warehouse?

Thanks!

Even if the LBS does sell it, I'd go to the fabric store anyway. Likely a HELL of a lot cheaper. Hardware stores sell self-adhesive tape, I got some 3M Scotchlite for my helmet.

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.

3M sells reflective cloth strips. There are usually a few on e-bay. I know there are other companies that sell it bolts, but I've only found places that sell 500m rolls...

This place:

https://www.cyberglow.co.uk/actinic-frame/index.htm

Looks like they have some cool stuff - check out that reflective jacket with 12 red LEDs! $32.58 aint bad at all.

They've also got 1.5" tall letters and numbers for 91 cents each - maybe it's time for some anti-car propoganda on my bag - I have plenty of space

You may also check at someplace like West Marine. Reflective tape is used on lifejackets, too.

There was a post somewhere where it was suggested to try a sign shop for that kind of reflective material.

As far as color go I like Yellow and White. Also, I you choose red put them on th rear of the bike. Yelloe and/or white can go on front or back.

this is a bit more money than just buying some tape ($20), but i am constantly amazed by how refelctive and versitile this accessory is. it's just an elastic velcro belt that i usually use around my bag:

Look in the yellow pages under Signs - Equipment and Supplies. I purchased 3M Scotchlite for about $5/sq ft in red, yellow, blue, white and green. This is the same material as the rolls. Has the peel off back. I cut pieces to fit wherever I want it. Strips on a messenger bag. Narrow strips on front fork and head tube. Large shape on my rear light bracket. Even cut a piece of the blue to fit the lower rear part of my helmet. Since the blue is a nearly perfect match it is invisible during the day but shows up at night in headlights.

For somethign cheap, you can find a bunch of 3m Scotchlite stickers to put on your helmet and bike. I dont' think they'd fair well on clothing/bags, but worth checking out:

Do you think this tape is as good as they say it is or best to stick with 3M?

I'm a huge fan of 3M and personally won't buy a substitute. I used 3M VSB double stick tape to mount a tie down bracket on my motor home over a year ago w/o a problem.

3M also makes a cloth backed silver reflective 2" ribbon that can be sewn into/onto cloths or bags. But it doesn't stretch.

Think I've found just what you are looking for. Two types. Check out the
Sew-On Reflexite Striping
and the
3M Silver Retro-reflective Fabric Tape

https://www.awdirect.com/awdirect/cat...kon=subsection

You have to purchase a roll of 25ft for about $21. I was thinking about buying some anyway, leaning toward the lime green Reflexite, but I'm flexible. I don't need 25 ft, but I do want several feet. If anyone just wants a couple of feet let me know. I will order a roll and send whatever anyone wants for whatever the actual per foot cost winds up being with shipping, probably $1.20-$1.25/ft plus postage which should be minimal since I can just stick in an envelope, probably less that $1. If anyone is interested post which type you would prefer and whether you are flexible. Don't post addresses.

RainmanP, I'd be interested in 6 feet or so of that reflective material. Is what you call line green the same as what the website calls yellow? If so, that sounds fine. If different, lime green could work too - I just didn't see it on the site.

I'd suggest the wider, 2" stuff for increased visibility but again could go with the narrower if you prefer.

My chain stay has the identi-tape red-silver like what you see on trailers and trucks. Because the stay is narrow, I had to cut down the width...it did not want to bend length wise along the stay...so it did not adhear very well.

I"m sure it works well on flat surfaces tho

Wow, may need to get two! Yeah what they call yellow looks more like what everyone else calls lime to me. I was planning on 2" anyway. You guys want enough that I may get two. If that is the case, does anyone want the 3M silver?

The lime or the silver would work. 1 or 2" or both is fine. I plan on "retro-fitting" several jerseys, and shorts ...per some suggestions on this thread and others.

Silver sounds good too -- if you get both, then maybe I'd go for 4 feet of each (reducing the lime order a bit). Or I could be happy with somewhat less if that pushes us over the magic roll size based on what other folks want.

Thanks!

IŽd be interested in both colors as well. IŽll send you an email. IŽd say 4ftx2" of each would be good.

OK, I just ordered 2 rolls of the yellow Reflexite 2" and one roll of the silver 3M Retro Reflective. Sometime in the next few days email me your mailing address. RainmanP@att.net

Awesome! I can't speak for the Reflexite. But for the silver Retro Reflective, you'll need to be decisive about how it's applied because if you change your mind and decide to move it, the holes from the needle will probably be still visible.

The stuff slides around, so it's good to tack it down with a glue stick or something and then stitch (by machine or by hand).
