It took some weather warrior skills to drive home yesterday from visiting family in Hampton Roads. Fortunately, the storm sidestepped the DC area, so apart from 50 mph wind gusts, the commute was pretty much a normal one for this time of year. No extra snow or ice to deal with. If I had a picture to share it somehow show me having to pedal down a little bit of an incline to maintain a 8 or 9 mph thanks to a massive headwind.

LOL, I prepared myself last night, put studded tires on, broke out my goggles, but this morning was more than I expected. The snow in the streets was knee deep with spots even deeper and there were no plows anywhere to bee seen. They've just started plowing late afternoon. The roads were totally impassable for several blocks and I didn't feel like carrying my bike to the main streets. I stayed home, napping most of the day

I had stopped at a store on my way into work, it wasn't raining when I stopped and went into the store, I came out of the store, still not raining, before I got across the parking lot, I was soaked. I didn't even have time to think about putting on my raingear.
A quarter mile later there was such a head wind that I had to actually pedal to go down hill. I remember thinking to my self, "I maybe should have my head examined."
I decided against the head examination, I am still riding, and I am still loving it.
Edited to add:
I am off until 9 PM on the 2nd of Jan. 2011, so I won't have any snow ride pics. until after that.

We get a little bit of everything in NYC. Summers with 105F and/or 100% humidity are not uncommon here either. Crazy weather here.

Looks like your sidewalks got cleared before the streets. Here it's typically the other way. How are you going to get to work in that mess?

A blizzard is a snow storm with heavy winds. It isn't a matter of accumulation, it's one of wind speed.

Oh yeah, the wind was pretty strong too. That resulted in some weird snow accumulation: no snow in some spots at all, six feet high "dunes" elsewhere, some cars are not covered at all, while some are completely burried in snow. My car is sitting on snow free parking lot but it's separated from the exit with 3-4 feet tall and many feet wide "ridge", that looks like a minature mountain.

Our streets looked like that in the morning too, but I waited til about 1pm to go for an adventure ride to store, then to my brother's house.
I wasn't commuting to work. I was off yesterday.
