Youch! Is it possible for you to work at home over the next couple of days?

Incredible, hope this settles down soon. Makes me realize just how global the BF community of commuters is!

Good ride in, lots and lots of runners to dodge. Saw a car going in reverse being pursued by a police car...odd.

reducedfatoreo 08-09-11 11:02 AM

****ty. Car cut me off on a left turn and I skidded out. Bent the fork on my C'dale. Now I need to find a replacement fork.

Last night's ride I almost collided head on with a Tow Truck that decided to turn in to a road at a T intersection as I was in the middle of the intersection. Buying a big ass honking light to blind oncoming folks today.

This morning's ride was fast, but I hit all the red lights.

It is getting easier. I live on the side of a ridge that winds up into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, of course I work at the bottom of said ridge. Its a twelve and a half mile climb back to my home after work in 90 degree heat with no shade till the last couple of miles. The first week or so just killed me but I never let the hill beat me. Now I find my self grabbing some gears and some speed going home now. I like the fact that its getting easier and faster to get home. Last night I almost had to laugh when I got to the top, it was the best climb ever and almost effortless at points. With that being said the fun part is going down in the morning with my gears maxed out and peddling for all I am worth. I really need to get a speedometer and see what my top speed is. ;-p

Passed what was either a broken down or crashed bus this AM shortly after leaving home. Glad I was on my bike... at one point replacement busses loading passengers were blocking both lanes of a two-lane street. I squeezed by carefully on my bike. Cars were backed up a couple blocks. :P

Catgrrl70 08-09-11 03:43 PM

Going on a mountain bike training class, a refresher course! Can't wait. I had to take the bus part way in today because there's no way I was riding a full suspension bike with lower tire pressure all the way in. :D

Looking forward to 3 hours on the trails tonight! Maybe the sun will come out...?

The morning ride was busier than usual, I think there were about a dozen vehicles on the road at 5:30 in the morning. It was also dark and foggy too. The afternoon ride was great. Traffic was actually smoother than in the morning.

Thanks, It's settled down tonight, I don't live in one of the troubled areas, but I do commute through one of the major ones where nearly 100 people got arrested last night.

I will be doing so, yes, although I can't imagine the trouble will continue for too long.

A very nice morning at 71F (22C). Great weather brings out more cyclists in the early morning. One fellow road with me for a short distance after coming out of a side street, then we parted at the next intersection. There were also 3 motorcyclists ahead of me at the gate, and that is odd for 5:30, but the weather brings everyone out. They must have been friends as they were very chatty in the parking lot.

absolutely wonderful ride to work. about 70 degrees. left a little early so I had a nice relaxed ride in.

tarwheel 08-10-11 05:58 AM

Great ride in this morning, with temps in the 70s and lower humidity for a change. I took a couple days off after riding 13 out of the previous 14 days, about 400 miles in all. It was very hot and humid the past two days with highs near 100 F, and I decided that I just needed a break from the heat. The next few days are supposed to be downright cool around here, with highs only in the upper 80s. One other reason for my mini-break is that I caught an eye infection, apparently from rubbing sweat out of my eyes so much while riding. Went to the doctor on Monday, got some meds and hopefully things will clear up soon.

Can't put my bike in my office while corporate is visiting from Texas. And it's been in the lower 70s each morning this week. They'll be gone today and I can start riding again tomorrow. Tuesday it was 3% humidity at 5PM. Felt like 85 outside.

dcb23 08-10-11 06:21 AM

Another very pleasant ride in. More joggers in the bike lanes but I am dealing with it.

dygituljunky 08-10-11 06:34 AM

The right hooks are worse in the last week.

53 minutes to and 50 minutes from work. I'm getting faster both ways. Nothing of great significance happened either direction, really...

According to a really good scale at work, I've lost 7ish pounds since I started back up. I need better scales at home.

Now at 133 of 500 miles for the year...

vtjim 08-10-11 06:49 AM

Pretty comfortable this morning. Some damp spots from rain over night but the sun was out. Blonde Trail Hottie has been out a couple of times this week.

There's a house-for-sale sign on the MUP. It lists "Beach Rites" as one of the attractions. I was wondering what kind of rites. Animal sacrifice? Satan worship? I'm very curious. :p

Surrealdeal 08-10-11 06:53 AM

It was downright chilly this morning, almost wished for long sleeves. I watched a thing on TWC about how the Jet stream is further south than normal and that's why Texas and all you other southern states are getting so much heat while it has been so cool up here in MN.

That sucks. The Cannondale looked like a sweet ride. Good luck in getting it fixed & back out there quickly. Your father in law really hooked you up on that bike.

scottsmith 08-10-11 07:13 AM

Nice ride in this morning. Beautiful morning out. Fewer cars and more cyclists than usual which is always cool. Another plus, every car but one that passed me gave me the full lane. Bonus! The one who didn't still gave a safe & comfortable amount of space.

Caught up and passed a really hot female cyclist once I hit town but she was going WAY too slow for me to stay and enjoy the view for long.

Cheers!

reshp1 08-10-11 07:19 AM

Gorgeous here as well, I was actually a little chilly the first mile. Left late (as usual :() and was hammering most of the way to make up time. Also cut in to a neighborhood to avoid a crazy intersection a little earlier and found much better pavement than my usual route.

Raleigh GP 08 08-10-11 07:25 AM

Another great ride in this morning. Echo the fellow DC area posters on the weather, low humidity and reasonable temps for Aug. The next few days are supposed to be really nice. Legs were feeling a little heavy this morning, as I have been cross-training a bit and working some running into my workout routine. Still managed to make decent time, but will take a moderate pace on the way home and enjoy the weather and scenery a little more than trying to keep a killer pace.

50+mph winds, rain, and a light show that was spectacular. I decided to drive this morning.

enigmaT120 08-10-11 10:32 AM

About 48 F this morning. My feet got cold. My Cygolite Rover II charger apparently is no longer working, as the headlight went out before I made it to Dallas (maybe 40 minutes). I still had my Blackburn Flea on my helmet and it was starting to near sunup anyway so I made it OK but I won't be able to for long. I emailed them today to see how they will make it right. I don't think I've had the thing 6 months yet.
