Gah! My top tube is cracked in two! :eek: :mad: (5 years old, over 10,000 miles on all terrain and weather conditions.)

I heard a loud crack this morning right before I got to work but didn't notice until I was rolling the bike out of the building and the seat felt "weird" in my hand. Something didn't seem right so I investigated and then realized what had happened.

Already talked to the LBS and they're going to document it and send it to Trek. I'm hoping we can just work out some sort of trade or discount on a new bike because I want a Soho, but we'll see.

Decent ride in after a nice extended commute home last night with a couple extra miles tacked on to drop off rent. The ride home today was a little hellish, though. Temps over 80 again and riding home into a 20 mph headwind gusting to 30+. Yick...

Awesome commutes today. 52F and overcast with slight winds from the S @ 3mph this morning. It was the fastest commute to school this semester. This afternoon it was 77F and mostly cloudy with the winds from the S beginning the commute at 7mph and picked up to 18mph towards the end.

Cloudy and warm. 60F, nice tailwind all the way home. The Alfine was pretty much in 7th and 8th the whole way home. Sweet!

Getting bloody hot here in the Sunshine State. 86 degrees with winds out of the SSE at 5-10. Sounds good until you factor in the humidity.

Nice ride in today, but it turned cool and windy on the way home. All in all it was still a good ride

My commute home this afternoon ended up being via bus, with my bike in the bike rack on the front of the bus. I was all changed and geared up to go home and as I was rolling my bike out of my office I noticed a lot of rolling resistance. I look down and my front tire is completely out of air. :(

I limped the bike about 1/3 to 1/2 of a mile to the transit center, missing the bus by about 1 minute. Normally this would be fine in May, but it was no fun waiting the 30 minutes for the next bus in 45*F and a 15 MPH wind, it felt like March today. I didn't get home before my LBS closed, so I ran the wheel over to Dick's Sporting Goods and had the tube replaced. I think I overinflated my front tube this morning and may have blew the tube out. Oh well, lesson learned!

Another rainy commute. I am sick of rain.

The roads along my route crumble apart a bit more each day so I did my best to avoid drowning in the deeper pools and not jam my front wheel into the crevasses.

A van sped past me with very little space between us. I wish I took down his license plate because the van then decided to run thru the stop sign and lean on the horn. Unless that's how vehicles are supposed to travel down rainy streets.

I hope we have some sunshine tomorrow. Much more of this rain and my fenders will be covered in moss.

What model of Trek was it ?

Question #1) Which Soho are you interested in? the belt drive or the regular? Just curious, because I am interested in both. Along those lines, what is your bike now?

Question #2) How exactly does a tope tube crack? Does that come from loading too much weight or something? Or is it more of a manufacturing defect? I am just getting into this stuff, and admittadly am not very knowledgeable about this stuff...For that, please forgive me.

A wet ride in at 48F (9 C). Rain in and rain all day probably, hopefully the winds are not too bad, and not expecting the temps to get too warm. Although, yesterday was very nice going home.

quick, no traffic, no flats, nice and warm. I can't complain.

Some hotel's courtesy shuttle laid on the horn behind me last night and then tried to rub me into the curb (even though I was in a clearly marked bike lane). I too wish I'd gotten his info and contacted his employers. We really need to do our part to get the menaces off the streets.

wet headwind and decidely cooler this morning. Defintely broke a long series of nice rides in.

It's a Trek Liquid 25. The frame supposedly has a lifetime warranty, but they're picky about what they'll replace. I haven't been abusive to it (never jumped it, for example), so I don't know why it would break like that. I'm a bit of a Clydesdale at 200-210 pounds, but it should handle me. I've never had a frame break before, and that includes the French-built Peugeot I was riding before the Trek. The break is close to, but not at, a weld.

I'm interested in the Soho with the belt drive. The "Deluxe", I think, is the current version. I've heard lots of good things from commuters. What I like is the low maintenance aspect. I ride in all weather, and hate all the cleaning and drivetrain wear & tear.

Despite the headwind, yesterday's ride home was pretty pleasant. A bit warm, but the wind eventually ebbed, and the rain held off. I took the long (17 miles, instead of 10), 'hilly' way (gotta work on my climbing however I can... ugh!) and though I took it at what I thought was a relaxed pace, I made pretty good time and maintained an overall average of 12MPH.

However, near the end I had an uncomfortable few moments as my body made it undeniably clear that I needed to void. Unfortunately, I had just passed the last 'commercial' area where a public restroom might have been found, and knew I had several miles before the next. Fortunately, they're doing construction at a local school, and there was a convenient (if disgusting) porta-john. Anyone else ever faced this dilemma? I wasn't in an 'unpopulated' area, just one devoid of 'commercial' facilities. I think there are 'facilities' here and there along the MUP, but not where I was when I was struck.

Okay -- enough of the TMI posting -- we now return you to your usual complaints about the weather.

Slightly chillier than anticipated due to clear skies, but those same clear skies promise to hold a beautiful sunny day in store for the ride home.
I passed a guy on a fixed up vintage Schwinn (didn't get the name) - cool bike. He had it done in the style of an English town bike. We chatted briefly at a light and I was on my way and he was on his.
Shortly afterwards, a guy on a carbon LeMond pulled up next to me. I'd seen him before from time to time, and we chatted . Really nice guy, and his pace ensured that I was running in a higher gear than I otherwise would've chosen this morning. :)

5C, cloudy, nice tail wind most of the way.

Was cold this morning 31f, supposed to be near 80 tomorrow:) will have a short week, friday is my b-day and I'm hoping for nice weather so I can get a MTB ride in:)

35F, sunny, still kind of buzzing from a very bad nutritional day yesterday (no breakfast, coffee all day, just a donut for lunch, that last uphill block was a struggle going home last night)

Chilly ride in this morning, 35*F, but the May sun helped. The ride was a bit tougher this morning surprisingly, but I am sure it will get easier as I ease back into shape. Looks like it will actually be a sunny ride home this afternoon, with temps in the low 60's. No ride tomorrow, b/c I have a doctor's appointment in the AM and no ride on Friday b/c I have to present at a conference at 7:30 am! :(

awesome weather today, rode in with my wife, one of my fav things to do.
