Finally back onto a regular commute.
Monday was nice. Temps were really good for Feb. Today was awesome! Actually warm enough to wear shorts in. Rode my hot rod R300 (built as a R1000si) in that I just got together over the weekend.
Suppose to get back into the 30's for tomorrows ride in.

Wild one tonight. Snowing big wet dinner napkin flakes and wind blowing hard.
At least for half my commute home it was a tail wind and it was just starting to stick on the roads as I rolled up the driveway.

Heard a bunch of sirens on my commute this morning and saw several EMTs, police and a fire truck speed by. I soon saw a big plume of dark smoke and then passed a house burning down along my route to work. That was sad. A cold morning to be forced out of your house due to fire. I hope nobody was hurt.

Was going to drive all this week, and ride recreationally in the evenings.
I couldn't do it. Ride in today was extremely foggy. I need to make a few adjustments on teh bike, nothing major. Finally got the bottom bracket adjusted correctly.

Nice weather, overcast 60F. My new highlight is checking out the cat that got hit in the middle of one of the intersections (I guess over the weekened). It's pretty sick but at the same time kind of neat the way it changes everyday. I'm betting if no one scoops it up it'll take care of itstelf by next Friday.

Nice ride in, yetserday's slush long gone. Cold crisp wind-free. Good ride.
Oh, back brake pad totally shot...sounds like metal on metal. Will try to get that fixed today.

Waht dcb23 said. Nice ride in this morning. I'd rather it be 25 and sunny like this AM than the warmer weather and rain that are predicted for the end of the week.

Starting to get tired of all the cold. -10 (14). The rest of the week is supposed to warm up though. Decided to try the MUP today for a change of scenery. It was somewhat clear but extremely bumpy. Shook a few fillings loose. Nicer weather is coming so I will get to ride my new Giant FCR3 commuter soon.

-2C/28F this morning, but none of the ice that I was riding on yesterday. Totally straightforward clear ride in today in the dark.

Clear and chilly but calm. Motor traffic was mellow. Easy spin on the fixed gear -- recovery from sprint intervals yesterday.

32 and hard rain changing to snow, as I went over the ridge. That stuck to my safety goggles, and I need gaitors or longer rain pants as some rain dribbled down into my left boot. Everything else is waterproof. There will probably be a few inches of snow tonight (though I did pass a snow plow going the other way, so I can hope) but my Continental Traffic dual sport tires seem OK in the snow so far.
Not a bad ride, really.

born again cyclist
so this morning i found out that studded snow/ice tires are NOT infallible. i was cruising along the lakefront trail on my commute this morning when i hit a huge patch of mirror smooth ice. i went down hard within a fraction of a second and because i was still locked into my clipless pedals, i proceeded to slide across the ice with the bike for several dozen feet, coming dangerously close to the edge of the path and falling right into the bone chilling waters of lake michigan. thankfully i finally came to a stop a few feet short of going over the edge into the drink, but it was scary none the less.
the problem of course was that i was riding my tires with too much PSI for icy road conditions, and they didn't have enough give to truly allow the ice studs to grip into the ice, so it was definitely my own selfish fault, but i really wasn't expecting such a large sheet of ice on the trail this morning, but i guess the waves must have kicked up a bit last night and buried that section of the bike trail under a super slick sheet of ice.
live and learn. at least i stopped short of falling into the lake...... which is nice.

It was supposed to snow overnight, it didn't. It was then supposed to snow between 2-6" today. It didn't. It's sunny and 41 degrees outside my office right now. Ok, sure, now it's supposed to snow overnight and that's ok. But I decided to take mtn bike and wore more snow-related clothing for 20 degree weather. I'm going to be sweating like crazy on the way home. I just hope it doesn't start raining because snow gear does not equal rain gear. I'm a little disappointed about the whole thing...

Even though we just got clobbered with well over a foot of snow a couple of days ago conditions for bike commuting were good today. I had a very nice commute and you can almost sense spring isn't to far away.

Well lets see, last night they finally widen the streets in preperation for tomorrows storm, so it was smooth flat snow on the way in, and 11F, after skiing about 6K with team I rode home in sunny 40s. But, now we are getting to insane weather again, supposed to get another 3 feet of snow tomorrow then tapering on Friday. My ski teams State championship is Saturday and is supposed to be a high of 20 and low of -12, thinking kids need to wear some serious under armour under their spandex and coach is going to have hand warmers everywhere

I almost hate to post this with all you Michiganers watching... winter's over here, for the last week, temps have been in the 60's in the morning, and 70's on the way home. It's shorts and T-shirt weather from here on out.
