Yellow fenders - do they increase visibility?
I'm looking at getting some Planet Bike fenders for my dark blue Miyata SixTen.
Do you think these yellow "Hardcore" "Full Coverage Fenders with Mudflaps" at
https://ecom1.planetbike.com/7046_3.html
increase the visibility of the rider over the black ones at
https://ecom1.planetbike.com/7046.html
enough to be considered safer?
I found this image which shows the fenders on a bike (which has a color scheme that works well with them):
https://www.pbase.com/billd9/image/54897663.jpg
They seem to be a plain "yellow", and not any sort of "high-visibility" paint or anything.

Riding like its 1990
The fenders are a hard plastic and the plastic is yellow so it will not fade or flake etc. I got some for a low price open box sale. I have reflective tape on the rear as well. I suppose my yellow fenders do make me "stand out" more on my red bike. makes it look like a McDonalds bike.

I put reflective tape on my fenders to increase visibility. I have the black ones though.
I wouldn't have gotten the yellow ones on a bet. Light colors don't generally work well in my world. I can't keep them clean. That is my major gripe about my J&G jacket, I can't keep it clean.

I think they would increase your visibility, but from how far away and in what conditions would be another matter. As long as you are not using them as a replacement for some other type of visibility and you like it, then go for it.

If you are concerned about visibility get a good blinky, use reflective tape/reflectors, or wear bright colors. Fenders are not exactly in the line of vision of most motorists, nor can they be seen from a great distance. I would choose the black ones if it were me because those yellow ones are hideous. You have much better options to increase your visibility to others besides fender color.

Blue and yellow is not a bad color combination.. school colors at UC Berkeley,
as I recall.. and my High School, FWIW.

I would say they increase conspicuity, but not visibility.

The bright yellow will be more eye catching than black. Personally, I think they would look nice on some bikes… it just depends. On dark blue I say go for it and post pics so we can admire it or make fun of it.

The bright yellow might be more visible in daylight. At night it's invisible unless you have reflecting material and/or rear lights.

Yellow is obviously easier to see than black. Get them. If you can stand looking at them. I nearly gagged....

During my work day, driving a tractor trailer, yellow Fenders have been very attention getting. Even compared to a blinky, during the day anyways. If you don't care much about looking a bit on the geeky side, get them, they do make you stand out.

Yellow fenders are a fashion statement, and quite a bold one at that. Definitely not for everyone, which is what makes them so cool to some.
I'd only get them if I liked the look (and sometimes I do)... the increased visibility would just be a side benefit.

A bill has been introduced in the NJ legislature requiring all bicycles in the state to sport yellow fenders.

My idea would be to use the reflective tape that's black but reflects white. That way you get a black/yellow stripes during the daytime (the combination of black & yellow supposedly being very visible) and still get reflective stripes at night.

I bought the yellow Hardcore fenders...because, they match the graphics, cable housings and bottle cages on my red Giant Iguana. Yes they are definitely more visible than black fenders, especially against the black top.

I have black fenders and added some 3m reflective tape from a website "www.streetglo.net" called "Black Magic". The tape is black during the day, but when a light shines directly on it it reflects white. Pretty neat stuff, and keeps with the look I wanted for the bike and increases my visibility a bit.

I have these yellow fenders installed on my winter Schwinn Discovery bike. Here is a picture of it after a 10 mile commute a couple of days ago. Also, you can see my matching helmet and a yellow Gore Bikewear jacket
P.S. Not sure why the pic ended up so big. Moderator, remove if it is

The picture size is fine, and I really like the yellow fenders on a black bike. I have a Raleigh M-20 in black and may do the same if they make 'em in 26 x 2+ inches.
Why the rear double rack?
