CycleSafe Bike Locker, Vs. Snow Plow, Vs. -21 Degrees Celcius.
 

Hi Everyone.
Upon my arival to work today (10km one way, all with the cars on the road) I saw something that shocked me.

My bike locker ($10 per month) was smashed by a snow plow.

I think the force of the snow plus the low Temp (-21 Celcius) caused the material to become too britle to stand up to the stresses of the snowplow.

Thankfully my locker is the farthest one from the parking lot and still structurally sound.

After a call to the grounds maitenence manager he told me they would fix the problem shortly.
I also made it clear to him that there has been no snow removal of anykind around my bike locker during the heavy snow we recieved a while ago, for this he apologised and said they would try to keep on top of it.

This is how much snow there was for me to shovel after 1 weekend!!

I know these bike lockers have not been as popular around campus as the admin staff thought, so I asked if fixing my locker would result in its removal and therefore I would have to use others located almost 1 km away. He assured me that would not happen.

So all is not lost.

I wonder if the people from cyclesafe are aware of the lockers Temp tolerances..hmmmm

The only issue I have with it is that the lock sometimes freezes shut if we get rain then a freeze. Its fully coated in a light oil now and very rarely freezes up

Its good the maintenance people will try in the future to keep it clean. My schools main campus does an OK job keeping snow from in front of the racks or burying them. Unfortunately I commute to a satellite campus and there not so diligent their.

Nice setup and WOW that's a lot of snow. I'll never complain about the winter time rain around here again :)

well Steel would have been better on the sides of that locker too..
maybe adding a couple tall Orange poles in the corner of the lockers
like they do on the winter roads in the California Sierras , over the passes,
will help guide the powered snowplough better the next time ..

or an A frame bike Chalet .. :innocent:

You have a personal bike locker to protect your bike from thieves and elements, they shovel the snow away...What's the complaint again?

Never seen bike lockers like that before, I just lock up at the old bike-racks on campus, the kind that you can only really lock bikes up at the end of the rack

I do not have a Complaint, only a worry that this Damage would cause the removal / relocation of my much loved bike locker.

"They" do not Shovel, I do.
The pic with the shovel is 15 min of shoveling while on my lunch. I brought the shovel from home a month before and kept it in the box. Dont ask how I got the shovel out of the box.

A sheet of 1/4 inch steel or alum over this crack may infact be how they fix it, however I think the plow operator knew it was there and tried to use the box to force the snow into the bucket scoop. I bet he thought it was a great idea for a second.

Hmmm, you got it good brother. When I asked for a bike rack at my place of work, I was told to stuff it. I checked the city codes, bike racks are mandatory. Called the city inspector on the building (my company leases a floor). When my company's office manager found out he called me on the carpet and threaten to fire me...(I laughed at him and walked out, that would make a good lawsuit.) Six months later they finally put in a bike rack.

Probably that he is paying $10 a month and the property is damaged and not being maintained.
