I hate fog.

Ran into thick fog a little less than half way to work this morning. Scary stuff. Fortunately, the motorists slowed down.

I had to slow down this morning, due to fog. Once I get over the ridge in my commute I like to coast fast down the other side, and it annoys me to have to use my brakes. I still prefer it to rain though. Very little traffic at 5:00 in the morning on my commute.

Fog can be very dangerous because of low visibility, obviously. I actually have a different route I use when its foggy. A route I consider safer in those kind of conditions.

caloso 01-31-11 12:17 PM

I hate it. There are a few roads I'll avoid when it's super foggy.

L.L. Zamenhof 01-31-11 12:21 PM

Other than the obvious reasons for disliking fog, I hate it because it gets my glasses wet faster and with better coverage than rain does. The couple times I've had to ride in fog, I cleared my glasses off at every red light, and it wasn't nearly enough.

ItsJustMe 01-31-11 12:29 PM

Fog is one of the reasons that I insist on a taillight MUCH more beefy than a little AAA powered light. If I can't see it lighting up the fog bank in my mirror, it's not bright enough.

Was this Tule Fog?

I kinda like the fog. Way better than rain.

I drive when it's real foggy. It's just not worth the risk to me. In addition to drivers not being able to see you well, it's hard to see when your glasses get covered with fog droplets.

dwilbur3 01-31-11 01:05 PM

The fog has been around so long this year that the cars aren't slowing down any more. I can see how those 100 car pile-ups happen.

LesterOfPuppets 01-31-11 01:22 PM

I usually take the sidewalk on foggy days.

Fog and dense downpour is definitely something to take into consideration when riding a bicycle. And yeah, it's NOT because the bicycle but all those lunatics in cars.

California Crow 01-31-11 01:36 PM

Fog is pure evil. I'm usually out riding for at least an hour in the early morning (around 5:00). For the past several weeks the conditions here in the Sacramento area have been either dense fog or rain, and it shows no sign of changing for at least a few more weeks. Just a couple of hours ago, I finally spent the cash to put a DiNotte 400R on the bike. The PB blinky I'd been using just isn't enough.

Yep...Sacramento valley Tule Fog. The worst kind.

caloso 01-31-11 01:55 PM

Sun came out this morning, but I think we'll just have more fog this week. Wet ground + sun + cold night = fog.

Ritterview 01-31-11 02:09 PM

California Central Valley Tule Fog. Driving because of it on my usual commuting route. Its been very bad for the last two weeks.

I had been driving for the past couple of weeks, just because of the fog. This morning I got up, looked outside and didn't see any. I thought "cool I'll ride today." 4 miles in, there it was. Fortunately, there wasn't much traffic so I continued on to work. Still, the hazards of fog...low visibility, traffic and zombies...usually keep me off the bike.

DJConspicious 01-31-11 03:42 PM

When I commute, it's not just the visibility but the fog is really bad for you to be breathing in.

scroca 01-31-11 05:46 PM

Yeah, fog is tough. Last time it was really foggy I ran over an opossum. Those things blend right in, and fog doesn't make them any smarter.

azesty 01-31-11 07:40 PM

Had a bit of fog here, but only one bad one so far. When I say bad I mean fog so thick I cant see the traffic lights on the other side of the intersection, though these are very big intersections.

I just stick to the generous bike lane, go more slowly through the intersections listening for horns (very dense fog is one of the few things I will take my earbuds out for), and cross my fingers.
