I had to stop commuting for a while :(

Last Monday as I was on my way home a Cadillac SUV swerved and hit me. I landed on my shoulder and then hit my head (believe me, I will no longer leave the house without my helmet). The woman was so rude, I was just a big inconvenience that got in the way of her journey. I actually had to ask her to call the ambulance. I now have a dislocated a c joint, my left arm is in a sling, and I'm pissed. No damage to me beloved bike, though, thanks and praises it wasn't any worse.

Hopefully, you had a police report made. She needs to pay your ambulance and hospital bill.

Sorry about all that. Get well soon.

Wow - I'm sorry about your crash, and injury. I seperated my shoulder (ac joint is a seperation), several years ago in a skiing incident. My advice is to go to PT. Short of that, @ least do some research regarding physical therapy for a shoulder seperation. Your seperation will never get any better due to the torn/strained ligament. However, you can strengthen the muscles around the a/c joint.

Good luck, and please tell me that you got a police report, and you're going after this lady. If not for yourself, do it for the next cyclist/pedestrian she may decide to swerve into. The loss of greenbacks can serve as an excellent form of negative reinforcement!

A police report was made and I have talked to a lawyer. I debated it for a while, but decided to go after her mainly for her attitude and the fact that she is teaching her son (who was in the car) that it's ok to have a complete disregard for human life. She showed absolutely no compassion or concern.

When I read about things like this, it makes me so angry.

Glad to hear you're going after her. If I ever hit someone even with my bike going slowly, I would feel so incredibly bad. That she made you feel like you're an inconvenience is so bad. Sounds like another case of the soccer mom who created so much stress for herself that she forgets to be humane.

Glad to hear you are still mostly ok! I broke my collarbone awhile back and the rotator cuff and bone are just now starting to heal up to where I can really ride again. Definately consider physical therapy... one of my friends told me right away that shoulders are what she sees "freeze up" more than anything.
