close calls on ice
I rode the 7 mile ride home in the snow and ice last night (in colorado springs). All was well till was ridding down hill going around 10-15 mph I made eye contact with a driver of and SUV who had stopped at a stop sign about 50ft ahead. I guess He didn't really see me because He pulled out in front of me and almost hit me head on I put my feet down and hit the breaks and started to fishtail side to side on the ice we came about 2ft from a crash. It seemed like slow motion wile sliding looking right at the guy and yelling into his window ''HEY STUPID WATCH WHAT YOUR'E DOING!!''
I was shaken up from that. Has anyone els had any close calls in the snow and ice with cars? |
On studded tires you may have had less drama.

haha yeah thats what I get for riding my road bike although snow was not in the forecast

Something similar happened to me on a rainy day. Once I felt the bike start to fishtail, I let off the rear brake, regained some control, and then jumped off. Even with my bike on the ground in front of his car and me yelling, the driver refused to make eye contact. Once I moved my bike, he drove away, pretending it didn't happen.
I'm glad to hear that you and your bike are OK. |

In my snow riding days, I never had a problem, but got to see several motorist skid into each other.
One day they shut down the highway because of a multi-car deadly collision. Motorist got an hour detour, the state trooper just let me ride through. |
