Bike commuting and Valentines Day
I forgot to order flowers for my Valentine, and so by this morning after cycling to work there was no delivery available. What to do?
I used the commuting angle. I ordered a towering spring arrangement, and after work had a friend drive me and my bike to the flower shop. I picked up the flowers, and he dropped me off in front of my house. I ring the bell, and there I am with my bike and flowers, and the story that I rode home 5 miles holding the flowers in a vase. 'No, it wasn't easy, but I did it for you:love: honey!' http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7514/valentines.jpg |
Nicely done.

I skipped the flowers. We took a group of high school kids from our church to the mountains last weekend and were at an out of town wedding the weekend before so I had not had time to do anything. Fortunately, I'd ordered a pair of MTB gloves and riding glasses for my wife a month or so ago and hadn't given them to her yet. Just needed to grab a card and some chocolates. Never hurts to have some "emergency" presents on hand for situations like these.

I bought a bouquet. They put a big bag over it, cause it's chilly out, and I put it in my pannier then rode home. Left it sitting in my pannier on the bike, with the bag removed, for her to discover when she got home.
Less complicated but more honest :). |

I took the day off and my wife and I went for a bike ride while the kids were in school. It reminded me of when we were dating.

I carried a bunch of red tulips from Trader Joe's home in one of the almost-permanently-folded-down panniers on my rack trunk.
My wife isn't into cycling, or I would have certainly worked it into yesterday's plans. She did sew me a few things with this fabric that had a cool bicycles pattern to it, though. |

We don't do Valentine's Day. Instead, I surprise her at random days through the year with flowers or whatever. Has a bigger impact.

I didn't give flowers or bicycle yesterday, but I have rode over to her place with a dozen roses strapped to the side of the panniers. People did seem to give me more room when they passed that day too.

I picked up some stuff at the grocery store Sunday night and picked up a cheap bunch of flowers and straped everything in my folding basket. We don't always do something for v-day, but I hadn't bought her flowers in way too long. I made a pasta dish last night from a can of tomatos some chopped spinich and shell pasta. It cost less than $2 to make, but even my wife (she can really cook) thought it was really good. I personally enjoyed it more than what we had at an italian place last weekend.

I don't have a wife, a girlfriend, a boyfriend a husband or anything of that sort. I do have a dog and friends though.
Couldn't bicycle commute because I had a anti-valentine's day dinner to go too after work. The timing of the dinner didn't allow me to ride home, prepare a side dish, shower/shave and make it to dinner on time. Dinner was amazing, and I came home to a dog that loves me. I'll be on the bike at the end of today though. :D |
Met up with my friend at the bar in the Chinese restaurant, a usual get together spot,
when the barkeep poured the refill in her wine glass , (plum) I said I'd pay for it, nudged her , said 'the perfect gift'.. ;) [the Cats at her house, would tear up flowers any how..] :trainwreck: |
I just picked up a bouquet on the way home, carried it in my rear pannier.

On Sunday Feb. 13 I drove my wife in her car to the flower wholesaler and let her pick out a box of 25 60cm stem red roses. Next day when she got home from work they were already trimmed and arranged in a vase. And I didn't have to drive a car on Monday.

I'm single, no date yesterday, so the best part of bike commuting for me was passing the miles of stuck cars trying to make their dinner dates.
