What's your beverage of choice ... while commuting?

I know that it's still February and after doing some Computer Based Safety Training on Heat Stroke and dehydration. I got to thinking what do you drink while commuting in the heat?

MijnWraak 02-14-11 11:41 PM

Water.

+1 I may add that if your a diabetic sugared "power" type drinks may hurt rather than help.

Sixty Fiver 02-15-11 12:08 AM

Coffee... :)

Sixty Fiver 02-15-11 12:08 AM

And water.

Squirrelli 02-15-11 12:12 AM

H2O, then tea when I'm off the bike.

wolfchild 02-15-11 03:37 AM

Black Tea and water.

Marauder9 02-15-11 03:46 AM

Water for me too

BigDaddyPete 02-15-11 04:52 AM

Beer....oh....while commuting? Then water. I'll use a "sports drink" if I'm doing a distance event, but for my round trip of 34 miles, just water. Most sports drinks have added sugar and sodium to keep your electrolytes balanced, I prefer to eat pretzels as a snack which tends to solve both the salt thing and the "I like crunchy snacks" thing.

FunkyStickman 02-15-11 05:33 AM

I steer clear of "sports" drinks, just water for me when I'm on the bike. When I stop, I'll drink juice, or whatever else healthy I can get.

H2o

Flavored carbonated water (Polar brand around here). I find it more refreshing than plain water, even when eventually warm and flat. The bottles however have screw caps to hold the pressure so I have to stop or ride slowly to unscrew. On long rides I eat real food for other nutrients.

For my winter commute I carry water just to see if it freezes, usually at less than 15 degrees for my 14 mile ride.

SlimAgainSoon 02-15-11 07:41 AM

Water only on all my rides.

The sports drinks don't sit all that well with me.

On hot summer rides, however, I may pick up a Gator-ade at a stop and go.

10 Wheels 02-15-11 07:45 AM

Green tea, Water, Powered Gatorade, Pepsi

philski 02-15-11 08:18 AM

dihydrogen monoxide, post-ride milk and whey protein.

Pscyclepath 02-15-11 08:23 AM

On the bike, for commuting, training, or distance riding, I carry either water or tea. If I need a little pick-me-up, then I stop by a convenience store or other facility for a cold Coke.

HardyWeinberg 02-15-11 08:29 AM

coffee in the am, green tea coming home

noglider 02-15-11 08:31 AM

I often mix a little juice or squeeze a bit of lemon or lime into my water. Not much. It can help hide the plastic flavor.

I did this as usual this past summer for when I cycled the bike portion of a triathlon. For some reason related to my effort, I guess, the water tasted disgustingly sweet, and I couldn't drink it. I don't understand what happened, and I never really compete. It was the first time I had competed in about 30 years.

jdswitters 02-15-11 09:02 AM

+1 on water with a little lime juice, also good for keeping the kidney stones at bay.

EKW in DC 02-15-11 09:04 AM

H2O. On really hot summer afternoons, I'll often have some coconut water when I get home.

Steely Dan 02-15-11 09:31 AM

water.

in fact water is the only non-alcoholic beverage i ever drink. juices, sodas, sports drinks and the like are all too sweet for me and i never got into the whole coffee thing for some reason. i think it's because i don't like warm beverages.

give me water or give me beer or give me death!

neil 02-15-11 09:48 AM

Scotch. Vodka or gin are stealthier, if that's a problem for you.

Seriously, though, just water. It's not like we have a shortage of salts in our diet. There's really no need to add more the way these sports drinks do.

buffalo_cody 02-15-11 09:51 AM

Water.
