Wow, I get more frustrated in the car then on the bike. I get so angry in my car so I guess I can understand the anger, but this would be the reason I ride more than drive. Today, in crazy weather I still rode and was much happier and more engeriized than yesterday when I had to drive.
Way to go on the calmness. I dont get a lot of yelling when I ride, more horn honks which is actually scarier cause they draw my attention away from the road. Way to make me crash, thanks.

I got to ride both ways today in the daylight, and I was surprised at how many people in their cars waved at me. They initiated it, I didn't wave first, but nodded or waved back to them.

There's always the Pee-Wee Herman response:
"I know you are, but what am I?
"I know you are, but what am I?

On topic, I had a couple of guys yell "Nice bike!" at me today. I still haven't had a motorist intentionally endanger me in 8 months. I've had a lot of people do stupid things, and a lot more people who were courteous. If you focus on the bad, it ruins all the good.

I find people who behave like this are just trying to get attention. Why give them what they want? I know it's really hard to ignore them, but I think that's the best way to deal with the situation. If you react, especially showing you're upset, then they'll be back the next day for more.

I think there was a famous general who once said that "revenge was a dish best served cold". I always like that idea. Basically you don't get caught up in the moment and do something without thinking. Rather, you wait about a year and then pay out when it's unexpected.

Have you ever considered just trying to talk to the guy? I realize you wanted to track him down, so I'm guessing this was your intended course of action?

Once I grabbed a fistful of starched white shirt through an open window and started throwing punches unitl I felt his nose break. I didn't feel guilty about it then and I don't feel guilty about it now. Buzz me in your black SUV, right-hook me, blow cigar smoke in my face and call me a name when I attempt to remonstrate... well, that's what might happen. Actions have consequences. Kicked a door shut on both a guy's hands once when he was getting ready to come out and kick my ass. I don't know how he got himself extricatedhimself from the situation, but it wasn't my problem and I don't care. Dumped about half a can of Grizzly Guard through the open window of a carload of thugs who threw a half-full beer at me, that was really gratifying; 5 for the price of 1.
I think I'm doing the cycling world a favor by being the bigfella with a short fuse and a tendancy toward sudden and disproportionate levels of violence. I got pushed around plenty in high school, and what I learned was that if you beat the living tar out of a bully, he won't do it again lightly.

Oh no, I'm a total prick. People never believe me when I tell them I'm a foul-tempered hothead, but I am.

Towards the end of last semester I had a few guys (I believe they were teens) in a beater-looking car who would pretty much lay on the horn everytime they saw me. It was always when they were going the opposite way and they would do it for about 2-3 secs straight. Not sure what their point was and I don't really care either. I would usually try to give a friendly wave whenever they did it. My plan was to remember what the car looked like and wave at them before they had the chance to beep. I never got to because the semester ended and I haven't seen them since.
I plan to start cycle commuting again next week as long as the weather co-operates. I'll be riding at a different time so I may not see them. You can bet if I do happen to see them, I'm gonna memorize what the car looks like. That way, I can beat them at their own game with a friendly wave.

And those guys will be MUCH less likely to hassle another cyclist than the guys who got waved at by the "pansy in lycra".
I've yet to get in a physical altercation with a motorist, but I have confronted multiple people while riding a bicycle and motorcycle. Daring someone to get out of the car while laughing at their manhood has quite the cathartic effect. The best is when they pretend they're going to get out, knowing full-well they're about to piss their pants.

You already know which high school he attends. You know what direction from the school he lives. A few recreational rides should turn up the car in front of a house or apartment some day.
It is priceless seeing the face of one of these fools the first time you ride by their house.

The thing is, I'm not a mean guy. I'm very gentle day in, day out. I'd rather talk than fight, I'm not a seething bag-o-rage 99 44/100 of the time. It's just that certain situations, where it's obvious someone is being a bully toward me, I kinda snap. I've had counselling for it and the therapist said that this was about as good as it was going to get. SO I try to use this power for good and not for eeeeeevil.

I've always liked the idea of removing the valve cores from their tires. No damage, just a major inconvenience. Heck, be nice and leave the valve cores in a pile on the hood.

Well, at least he hasn't tried something malicious like mine did a few years back by throwing something into my wheel and flipping me. Saw his car parked on the side of the road one day. Keyed that f-er.

I had a cup of ice thrown at me once (wilst running). Pissed me off royal. I was already having the worst day ever. Almost wish they'd a stopped so's I could beat the crap out of 'em. . . except. I have to remember I couldn't fight my way out of a paper bag. Even a wet paper bag.

Like most, it's usually the teens hanging on a corner or showing off to their friends. Sometimes, I yell back after I pass, that "I LOVE YOU MAN"

It is official Philski: You are Awesome! Good on ya for taking the high road. I try, and occasionally succeed! I try to remember the whole "we are ambassadors 24/7" thing.
