I have a Bad A$$ bike ;)

There's a bike room in the basement of my building. Most of the comments I hear from people are while I'm riding the elevator with the bike (bringing it up or down).

I get the typical questions: "A little cold today?" "How far do you ride?"

Early this week I didn't get a question from one fellow elevator passenger. Just a comment.

"That is one bad ass bike."

I had never really though of it, but it does look kind of sinister with its black paint and knobby, studded tires. The coating of rust on the chain which has splashed all over the rear rim only adds to the effect.

I've grown more used to comments from drivers questioning our sexuality while out on group rides, so this was an interesting change of pace.

Yeah, OK, I agree the "purple cow" bar tape doesn't make it as mean looking as it could be.

It was supposed to match the purple lettering. I picked it out during a weak roadie moment. So much for bad ass.

What about the chain? I just cleaned it Monday !

I'm hoping to get about 4 more weeks out of it. According to the gauge it's still good. According to my eyes?

There's a reason I carry a chain tool.

+1. Studded tires=babe magnets. But forget the chain cleaner. A hardcore commuter rides until chain squeaks turn into grunts. Then it's time to lube.

It reminds me of my commuter, except that mine doesn't have any of the badass rust or studs.

I'm too old to have even known what those are. I had to look them up.

We used clothes pins and playing cards. Made that old Huffy Cheetah Slick sound like a motorcycle.

Now we're talkin bad ass.

You need at least 200 per tire otherwise you just get the desperate ones. Oh, and while they may claim they prefer a clean chain...

Of course, it wasn't worth that much when I was 11.

I put the B in Badass... spokee dokes, streamers, and a fluffy little dog. And I have used cow tape on my bikes too.

Serious winter mode with 64/128 front back studding.

We were strict Catholics. My little sister wasn't allowed to touch a spokee doke until after she got married.
