Changes to my commuter

This weekend gave me a chance to change a few things on my Surly CC.
  • Sold the Brooks B17 narrow to buy a Brooks Flyer. [the width of a regular B17, with the benefit of springs]
  • Took the Surly Nice Rack off the front. [didn't use it enough to justify the weight. I hope it'll be a little sportier handling now. Also, won't be such a hassle to load it on the bus rack. I used to have to strap it down with bungee cords]
  • Got Tektro RL726 cross levers [in combination with the Brooks Flyer, this rides comfortably and up right]

Finally, I need to switch out the Armadillo All Condition skinnies [700x25] back to the stock Ritchey Speedmax cross tires [700x32]. I think the cross tires are fluffier and should be able to handle potholes better. Cornering seems a little slippery with the Specialized Armadillo's, too. Sure, they're faster, have less rolling resistance and can roll over glass safely, but they work best on nice, smooth roads.

Just thought I'd share. :)

I did a similar change of tires (Schwalbe Marathon Extremes in 35 mm width). I really like the difference. As for the rest, I kind of went in the other direction and just put drop bars on.

I have drop bars, too. The brakes on the hood are good, but it's just nice having brakes within close reach in any hand position.
