Gee, and the politicians want us to think it's oil speculators who control prices.

Gas is about $4.01 for regular near me. I drive a 13 year old VW that gets between 27-32 MPG depending on how far into it I stick my foot.

Long story short, I'm biking to work as soon as I get back from school(I flat out can't do an 18 mile commute in 25 minutes like my schedule requires me to right now while on a bike!)

Gas is now about $3.70 per gallon. I don't know if it is the nicer weather or that there really are more bikes on the road, but it seems to me that there are way more bikes on the road than I have seen in the past. My buddies at the bike shop claim that sales are up. It could be the better weather but, they said higher than normal sales for this time of year.

Gas just hit $4 here in Omaha. There have been stations in the city charging over $4 for months but this is the first time the average has surpassed $4. All 4 stations I pass on the way to work are at $3.89 and I live in the part of the city with the cheapest gas on average.

I have always commuted by either bus or bicycle but just in the last 4 years made a full switch to bicycle. I just love riding by those gas stations. Nearly always get honked at as well while going by.

$4.19 / gallon here.. I really just can't afford to pay those prices anymore. Since losing my real job over a year ago, I have been forced into taking a job that pays considerably less. I am just getting back into cycling after a long time away and about 50+ extra pounds. My job is 21 miles away from my home..

Hard to gauge because the price keeps going up almost daily.

But yes... I've parked the truck, cut all non essential expenditures, and I'm now riding my bike to work and around the community. So are my friends and co-workers.

Thinking about the price of fuel primarily in terms of our own personal transportation is a bit shallow, I think. Let's consider what the cost of fuel is doing to our economy. What affect it's having on the cost of food, public services like national defense, law enforcement, road maintenance, maintenance of parks and golf courses...

Congress has been taking a pass the past couple of years on increasing Social Security, saying there has been no increase in the consumer price index, etc. - yet they needed a raise for themselves. Yet we all know that food keeps going up. So does clothing, toiletries, and all consumer goods.

I think this is going to trigger runaway inflation. The price of fuel combined with the flood of funny-money the Fed has been printing to shore up the economy HAS to start the flames of inflation.

Filled up the wifes new car since we got rid of the gas guzzling BMW and nice to only have to put regular instead of premium. Its rinning right around 4.13 at Costco and my truck, which is diesel, im paying 4.39.

$3.89 a gallon here. I drive a 2004 Dodge Ram that gets between 12-14 around town so it would cos me a gallon a day to get to work. Started commuting on the bike last month and truck hasn't moved since.

~7.79 USD/US gallon (conversion from LT/Litre). That's Europe. Not so many new bike commuters to the work this year. Car parking is full, and about third coworkers leave a car 700 meters away (a bit less than half mile). Strange love, he?

And numbers like that are why I keep telling those I know that drive they are getting a bargain. I have friends in Germany and the UK and they wish they could only pay 4 USD a gallon. Needless to say those friends take public transit or ride a bicycle most days as driving is a luxury.

I remember the last time there was a big spike in gas prices - June of 2008 - folks in Hollywood, Calif. were saying that it was all George Bush's fault. Bush being in the oil business and all.

I was just back in Hollywood with the same group. They aren't mentioning the president at all this time. Don't want to even talk about him. Hmmmm...

Gas here is very close to the $9/gal mark (Germany). On the one hand I hate spending 100 euro to fill the tank, on the other hand when I am on the autobahn and see the amount of traffic I wonder what it would be like if prices were similar to the US...

The think I dislike the most is that taking the train is no cheaper than driving me 20 year old car (if there is more than one person). Average train ticket from Cologne to Munich is about 200 euro round trip per person, which is about the same as driving my 18 mpg car. Yes, a newer car would be more efficient, but it would also cost a lot more overall.

What I do like is that I can take the bike or walk to 95% of the time to take care of everything.

$4.90 for Premium in Chicago NW burbs. 17mpg around the city. My commute is only 7mi rt, so I started commuting by bike... wish I got into this way earlier, would've paid for the cost of my bike over a year.

$4.29 Gal in Mid-Michigan, and although I only have a 7 mile communte to work, I will look to do more of it, along with cutting summer trips in and out of state for organized rides. It cost me over $100 yesterday to fill my tank on my truck, and this is an amount I thought would never happen.

My commute being about 15mi one way to school means if I commute 3days/week for 10 months (-December for snow, -April for hard rain) then my bike is paid for by the $150/mo I spend on commuting alone in gas. If I didn't have a car that's $700/mo in savings right there.

I believe gas in China is somewhere around 8 yuan/litre, or ~US$1.25/L. But I'm not sure, seeing as how I don't have a car and I don't drive here. On days I don't cycle I ride my electric scooter to the subway station and take the subway to work.

Not sure. I ride by around 10 gas stations everyday, and never feel the need to look at prices.
