Face it, its about being obnoxious

-Day Glo jacket with reflective stripes
-Minimum of one Superflash leaving drivers behind you seeing stars
-Minimum of 200w front LED set to strobe
-Reflective accents on fenders and tires

Its annoying and obnoxious but no one can claim they didnt see me if i get hit.

Top it or inspire me. GO!

-About 4 feet of reflective tape on fenders/crank/handlebars/shifters/mirror/bags
-Magicshine 1400 Front + rear (reflects off of signs for at least a mile behind me!) No strobe though .
-Reflective stripes on gloves and ankle straps.

I once had three Superflashs on the rear set to flash one after the other. It really was blinding and I think I can try again with a few more on there

I used to use three belt beacons set in a triangle pattern on the rear of my bike... they were yellow and flashed randomly. I also had a marine rescue strobe on a short fiberglass pole... the headlight was nothing special... in those days good headlights were few and far between... but the goal was to be seen... and the strobe did that well.

These days, lots of good lighting is available, no one has an excuse to not look like the alien mothership.

I use lots of automotive reflective tape, pedal reflectors, front and rear lights, and have reflective tape on my helmet.

My clothing is 100% regular, blue collar clothes. I refuse to pay high dollar for flimsy plastic, weird-looking stuff that I'll probably leave in the closet. I've been told at intersections that I am extremely easy to see - so it works for me .

It may or may not stop you from being hit, but if you are it helps in negotiating. The insurance adjuster for the lady that hit me initially made insinuations about visibility. I sent them a picture of my bike and jacket and all of the lighting I use. Visibility was not brought up again.

Two 1w PDW flashing, one 3w MS taillight on back of bike, and one 1/2w PBSF on back of helmet.

However, makes no difference if driver has their head tilted down and texting on the phone. Heck around here they rear end police car so it would be no surprise if they rear ended a cyclist.

I've got to get some blinkies for the panniers and a couple of SpokePOV lights... and more reflective tape! I'm working on getting a vest, too.

Two mini-newts at 250 lumen, a third at 150 lumen and 3 blackburn fleas on the back. I'm shooting for a blinker pattern that causes epileptic seizures and enough front lighting to not only cause police to stop me for blinding oncoming traffic, but to make drug traffickers believe I'm a UH1D helo with dayglow spotlight. Odds are I'm going to get shot being so visible.

My CAAD has zip, zilch, nada.

You hit it on the head. I've noticed that I have many fewer close-calls or verbal confrontations with motorists, when my gear is as obnoxious as I can make it, without blinding them. Making people slow down enough to take notice of you is the key. While they are on a boring drive to or from work, annoying is often your best bet to be noticed.

I worked for a hydro subcontractor, so I got one of these obnoxious orange coats out of the gig... otherwise I think I might don a high-vis vest... few bits of reflective tape on stuff too, but I took all the old-school reflectors off.

I saw an older rider that was even more obnoxious than me. He had to have about 20 something lights and reflective material everywhere. I actually scaled back on my lights. I only run with 6 now. Sometimes just 4. I use to be up to 8.

I was just about to make fun of you until I read the 55mph part. F-it. I bet your setup attracts a lot of birds.

My philosophy is that if someone hits me with their car, it's not because they didn't see me. Visibility works. I've got 2 PB Superflashes (one on helmet, other on seatbag) and a Dinotte 140 tail-light. On the front, I've got a 300-lumen LED light on my handlebar and a 100-lumen flashlight on my helmet. My bike has reflective strips on the fenders, and I always wear bright jerseys, jackets or vests (yellow or neon green) as well as reflective neon ankle bands.
