Found a pair of size 12 body glove water shoes. They sat in the gutter for more than 24 hours. The first time I saw them I was going too fast and didn't feel like going back. The next day I saw them again (along with a kitchen towel? hand towel?), so I picked them up. They fit me fine. I will keep them at work, and use them for emergency rainwear, when there's midday rain I'm not ready for.

I missed my ferry to work last Tuesday. In a pinch, I borrowed my girl's car and drove, blech. Sure enough, as my driving skills are rusty, I clipped off the passenger side mirror on a giant parked semi. Dammit.

The next day, on my bike commute, I found the mirror on the side of the road. Shockingly, it popped back on my girl's car. I'm still in the dog house...

Found this nice folding boxcutter. I then used it to slice up some coroplast election signs so I could take them home and experiment with making fenders out of them. I also picked up a whole lot of metal for struts. The H-shaped assemblies for holding up the signs, but also 9-foot long thin metal poles folded into an upside down U for wrapping signage onto. I grabbed like 5 of those.

Not particularly strange, and not quite "on my commute", but this morning as I rolled past the dumpster on my way out of the complex, I saw a Rockhopper, sans wheels and brakes. I carried it back to the garage. It's a pretty small frame, too small for any of my kids, but I have a spare pair of 26" wheels and I think I can scrounge up some V-brakes, maybe I can make this suitable for somebody else's kid. I think my nephew needs a bike.

Also, about a month ago I snatched from that same dumpster a Dahon RV Mate III folding bike. The 3-speed IGH doesn't shift so good, but hey, the price is right!

4" extension for 1/2" drive rachet.

RubeRad 01-12-17 01:14 PM

Not strange, but I found a really cool bike glove. Pearl Izumi, full finger, with a key pocket at the wrist, and also a little pouch from which you can pull out an attached rain cover to extend over the fingers, neon yellow with reflective markings. I can't find pics of that pi glove model on the web.

It was sitting in the bike lane at a stoplight for more than 24 hours. I picked it up the second time I saw it.

Unfortunately, it's size XS, and I would need XL, so I'll give it to my son.

I have the 1/2" drive Craftsman ratchet for you :thumb:

Unfortunately it is in rough shape. Perhaps it could be sent back to Sears.

1 glove or two?

I'll occasionally find good work glove sets, but I usually ignore them unless I find two.

CliffordK 01-12-17 01:26 PM

Hmmm... I found a garbage can lid.

Then about 1/4 mile later I found a garbage can that the lid fit.

So, I went back and snagged em both.

Forgot to say, right glove only.

I pick up single gloves if they are in decent shape, I have a few of each hand and wear them mismatched.

I just had to replace the plug and chuck key. good stuff

Be careful with that old unit, all wires are frayed, it does not have ground, significant danger of electrocution with that thing

yes but copper in this case means "someone who cops" not "a type of metal"

actually badges used to be make of copper the metal back in the day, this copper because of the copper badge. That is per my criminal justice 101 teacher.

There, fixed it for you. And daaang, that was one nervous snake! Glad no one was bitten.

Not strange, but bothersome: construction cones and signs everywhere, all the time. Good, old construction.... Never stops.

A couple of weeks ago I found a gold mountain bike. It was locked up to a pole but everything had been stripped/stolen from the frame – except for the rear wheel/tire. What kind of thief takes everything from a bike but the rear wheel??? It wasn't chained up to the frame or the pole. That's the big ticket item!

Korina 09-28-18 10:50 AM

^ ^ ^
Obviously they already have a frame and rear wheel. :D

I find so much weird stuff on my daily bike commute, from a bowling ball to weird pagan offerings, I have an Instragram hashtag devoted to it.

I also had an art installation in the college gallery

I came across this on the way home. I almost ran it over. I thought it was a stick.

That's great - but how could you possibly have resisted picking up that chair?!?!?

I guess they are those considerate thieves, who wanted to leave the rest for other thieves https://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/lol.gif
