Quick noob light question...
I'm just now starting to ride at night because it's getting warmer, and I have a quick question...
I just bought some Knog frog lights for really cheap, and it has 3 functions to them... Steady, flashing, and burst mode. I first want to say, I'm not using it for light guidance purposes, I'm just using it for people to see me while I'm riding! Haha. We have light all around my town.
But my question is, which functions should I use for my front and rear light? I'm sure people have their own opinions, but I didn't know if you "had" to use a certain function for the front and rear lights...
Thanks in advance.

LOL!
Thanks for the message linking to the thread about lights. It helped alot. I won't be getting the DiNotte but I'll use flashing... Like I said, it's just for people to see me when they drive by. We have street lights everywhere here; campus town!

Flashing, yeah. I would think about getting something better than the Frogs - they really are not very visible, and particularly in the dense urban areas where they seem to be used the most, the wimpy little LED blends into the scenery with all of the other lights around.
Good for backups that you can keep in your bag all the time, but you might want to get a rear Superflash and something a little more powerful in the front, even a Knog Beetle is significantly more noticeable.

I say either flashing or burst mode. It is usually more noticeable than a steady light unless it is obscenely bright. Plus it usually has a longer run time.

In dark, unlit, areas, a flashing light is more noticeable but can make it difficult or impossible for other road users to judge your speed and distance. A steady light is better when it's really dark out.
If there is other light around so that other people can at least see your shape or outline, this won't be as much of a problem.

+1 Flashing
Lighting-wise I'd suggest, at the very least, a Planet Bike Blaze (1W or 2W) up front and a Planet Bike Superflash on the rear.

Single flashing likes make it hard to judge speed or distance.
Some flashing lights pulse at too low a frequency so you can have almost 1 second between flashes, long enough for a car to pull out.
If you use 2 rear lamps, use one of them on steady, one on flash.
I use flash in poor light but steady at night. The front is always on steady.

Well like I said, there are quite a bit of lights on my way to and from work/school... I'm guessing flash rear and steady front?

get the planet bike one and put it in flashing mode. Use your knog and attach it to the back of your helmet.

And, no, streehtlighting won't make that much of a difference. The point of strong flashers is for people to see you at a glance out of the corner of their eye. The Dinottes are probably overkill, but $40 each on quality fullsize front and rear LEDs would be smart.
Or swallow it. It won't be much less visible.

why not just buy Knog Boomers? They're not that much more. Also, I really like how Knogs attach to seat posts and handle bars. I don't kow why, I just like the design.
Oh, and I always use flashing mode on the rear Knog. It just seems more visible and attention grabbing.
I have a Cygolite MilIon USB rechargeable light in the front.

I only use the steady light in very dark areas when I need to see where I'm going.
