When I met the most wonderful lady in the world she was worried that I would not like riding with her because she was and continues to ride a Dutch styled city bike and I was working on getting into time trial shape on my fixed gear road bike.

She thought she would slow me down.

I told her that I was just waiting for someone who I could take long leisurely rides with and showed her something that made her heart melt...

I still like to ride fast and long but the best times on a bike are spent with a certain beautiful lady and the pace is never so fast that we can't share our thoughts, hold hands, or steal a kiss or two at a stop.

Can't ride the old roadsters anymore because of my back not liking the position but it was never about the bike but who you wanted to spend your life riding with.

We now have a tandem so we can ride together and she is looking forward to going a little faster and farther and even wants to go cyclo-camping feeling that working together she could see herself riding 100 miles in a day which is not hard on a tandem.

And I really am a pretty utilitarian cyclist and do have a basket and a cute little dog.

My granddaughter doesn't have the same hang ups.

My wife won't be caught dead on anything she deems is an "old lady" bike. Even when I take out my Superbe for a nice toodle, she's still all decked out in spandex and on one of her road bikes.

But my granddaughter doesn't share her hangups...she likes her bike with the wicker basket on the bars.

Gahh, I tried about three different ways of fixing it, then decided I should delete it while I figured it out, but you beat me to it, thanks.

Just copy the URL of your image, select the IMG icon on your reply window, paste the URL in the box.

or just replace the < with [ from what I type below:

I side with your wife. I cannot imagine myself even in a step through again although I tried one for several month. When I shop at a LBS, I do see a majority of women looking at comfort bike like beach cruiser and here I am at the opposite side of the shop looking at Specialized Roubaix and Cycle Cross.

It is funny at times I will admit. There's this fellow who always accuses me of riding a boy bike (newer Schwinn Letour) and trying to convince me to get a cruiser so that I will sell him my Schwinn.

I'd say he blends in with all the high viz gear and the panniers. The tux is a different story though.

You expect to get Fred points for making a good bike choice? In reality, points will be deducted for your carbon fork.

You don't look like you have aged 40 years and how cool would it be if you still had that beautiful old Raleigh to take a picture with.

Ha! You are too kind.

But, oh, how I do wish I still had that Raleigh- I loved that bike and did thousands of miles all over Southern New England on it. I do have my father-in-laws even more vintage Raleigh, however. It's a rod-braked "British Bobbies" 28" from the late 50's. It's still in renovation stage- he'd painted it white with house paint! But one day I'll have it back to something resembling it's original condition.

If you want to see some like-minded, spandex clad young women on road bikes, find some triathlon training club ride or better yet, get into racing. It's still going to be mostly men though.
+1 on the college campus, though you all should see ASU... there seems to be a mixup of cycling attire, most ladies don't wear much on or off the bike starting late Feb
