How many different bags to you have?

This is NOT meant to be another "on your back vs on the bike" threads.

Currently have two backpacks, one mess bag, a sling/pseudo-mess bag, and a pair of grocery panniers. Two are waterproof, the rest aren't. I annoy my wife to no end switching out bags based upon load and weather forecast for the day.

ChrisO 03-27-11 10:11 AM

I've got a pair of commuter panniers (Avenir) and a rack (Zefal) that I haven't used in a year or more; two Carradice bags on the Surly that replaced the panniers (Barley on the saddle and a Zipped Roll on the handlebars); and, a Bell wedge bag type thing on the MOtobecane. I am currently perusing different messenger bags for days that I want to commute on the Moto; it just seems like an inappropriate shame to load down my "rocket bike" with a bunch of bags and bottle cages.

Grim 03-27-11 10:26 AM

2 sets of Novara transfer panniers I picked up under $50 each set at their scratch and dents.
Novara trunk I picked up at a consignment shop for $15 to use on my Fuji with the Blackburn rack and on my Contructeur rack on the Raleigh that is not a Raleigh if needed.
MTX trunk bag for the three bikes with compatible racks.
A single pannier that I forget the brand but $1.99 at ta thrift store. Did not find a mate.
Have a LG bar bag that loose right now.
VO Campagne bag on my DD (replace the LG)
Bar bag I dont remember the brand of on the Trek 420.
Couple back packs
Couple Kelti waist packs
couple shoulder back.

Whole slew of seat bags that I keep tools and tubes in.

adaminlc 03-27-11 10:36 AM

I have a three different camelbak brand backpacks (mule, rim runner, one I can't remember) that I use depending on my mood, as a well as a a timbuk2 messenger bag (medium, I think) and a pair of panniers from Axiom. I mostly use the messenger bag and the panniers. I only use the backpacks when I think I will need my load to stay very stable off the bike.

RedZone 03-27-11 11:10 AM

Backpack and panniers. I had a messenger bag but it was too big and awkward so I gave it away.

enigmaT120 03-27-11 11:57 AM

Just two, a pair of Ortleib front loaders plus. This winter I'm really glad I just went for the waterproof stuff, no messing with rain covers. I leave one locked to the rack, and take the other with me when I get on the bus or go into work. Sometimes they just barely hold all the junk I want to carry, but I think I'm hauling enough weight now so I'm glad I didn't get the bigger rear paniers. (I use these on a Topeak rear rack.)

GoPlayOnTheTrac 03-27-11 12:22 PM

Just replaced a planet bike escape pod with Ortlieb Back Rollers because I needed more versatility. I also have two of these for groceries. Sometimes I'll use my old hi-tec backpack, too. So I guess that makes 6 if you include the pod I no longer use.

MVclyde 03-27-11 12:28 PM

I have a backpack, pannier and a rack duffle. I'm only using the pannier these days. The backpack was my main commuter bag before I installed a rack. I only use the duffle when I need extra capacity (but it's floppy so I think I might buy a trunk).

I also have a messenger bag but I use it as a briefcase/laptop bag on days that I drive or take public transportation.

tsl 03-27-11 12:44 PM

I have two sets of grocery panniers, my old Nashbar Townies and my new Arkel Shoppers.

I have two sets of commuting panniers, my old Nashbar Daytrekkers and my new Ortlieb Sport Packer Pluses.

I have one trunk bag, an Arkel Tailrider.

I have two seat bags for tools and flat kit, both Topeak Aero Wedges, one (for the commuters) uses the mounting clip and the other (for the club riders) uses the straps.

I have one backpack from before I became a convert to panniers, a Tom Bihn Brain Bag. Lately, all it gets used for is as something to attach wheels, or a frameset, or even a whole bike (wheels and frameset separated) to when I transport them.

fietsbob 03-27-11 12:48 PM

Most used : Brompton Touring Bag, and Ortlieb roller closed panniers..

no motor? 03-27-11 12:49 PM

The always attached Nashbar racktrunk, and a pair of Nashbar ATB panniers that I sometimes use when I'm not wearing one of the 2 backpacks if I need to carry something. Plus a $5.00 seatbag I couldn't resist earlier this year, and a messenger bag I've never used on the bike.

Then I think I'm getting another backpack for my birthday. Plus 2 laptop bags I've never used on the bike either, and another seat bag I used to use I forgot about. There may be more too.

Grishnak 03-27-11 01:33 PM

I have a detachable pannier,a rack pack, and a swiss army breadbag which fits my shoulder or any rack/Bike.

crhilton 03-27-11 01:40 PM

2 pairs of panniers. One good (Arkel), one crap (Trek).

1 mess bag (Chrome).

1 old backpack from college that I really just don't use. Don't think I used it in college either.

swwhite 03-27-11 02:43 PM

I have:

Ortlieb messenger backpack that is my main commuter bag.
Ortlieb office bag that I use in the winter so I can wear a reflective and lighted vest in the dark.
Ortlieb sling-it shoulder bag that I found on sale and use like a messenger bag for running errands, and for other off-bike uses.
Two Banjo Brothers grocery panniers, for groceries.

chipcom 03-27-11 03:24 PM

I can't even begin to count how many various bags I have. When I die, the garage sale is going to be a fred's mother lode. ;)

CliftonGK1 03-27-11 03:51 PM

Pair of homemade 4gal bucket panniers
Topeak rack trunk
Carradice Pendle
Berthoud GB28 front bag

Ditto.
Lessee here... two panniers (one converts into a backpack), a trunk bag (that also converts into a backpack), one triangular frame bag and one seat bag, all from MEC. I also have one of those hard plastic lockable trunk boxes (Raleigh?) and three backpacks (two Dakine one Jandd).
Oh yes, and one messenger sling. I have a feeling that there may be more that I've forgotten about.

I think this bag thing may be out of control.

colleen c 03-27-11 04:58 PM

If N+1 is for bike, then N+2 is for bag. I went through bags like I do gloves. Problem is that I don't return them when I don't like them. More bags than bike, and I even think one day it will pass my shoes collection. Here are a few:

One messenger bag from REI that really not a messenger bag because it lack a stabalizer strap.
One Detour seat post mounted bag for the roadie.
One TransIt Metro rear pannier bag that iss great for day I'm doing paper work.
Two Topeak MTX bag (one with a side pannier)
Two TransIt handle bar bag.
One TransIt grocery pannier bag
One Avenier grocery pannier bag
One Planetbike Escape Pod
Two Avenier side pannier bag
One luggage bag modified to fit on the rack
One Topeak rear wire basket
One Topeak front wire basket
and a bunch of Bento, Stem, and seat post bag.

I need another bag like I need another hole in my head

no motor? 03-27-11 05:11 PM

I've lost track of the times I've packed my stuff in 1 bag, and then packed it in another bag before I leave. I'm very good at packing now.

threecarjam 03-27-11 06:51 PM

2 messenger bags (after selling 2 last week)
1 set of nice custom touring rear panniers
1 grocery pannier
2 Swiss army surplus bread bag panniers
1 other random army surplus bag turned pannier
1 trunk bag
3 different Carradice saddlebags
1 Acorn front rack bag
also two folding Wald baskets, and a small Wald front basket. You know, to hold other, non-bike-specific bags in.

I also got rid of a few panniers last week. And had a mess bag stolen last year. And have a set of Carradice front panniers on order. And am watching any number of nice bags on eBay. I haven't owned a backpack since I was about 11 years old, but clearly I am on a mission to own every other bag in the world. I had to physically restrain myself from buying a full front and rear set of Ortliebs when Best Buy had that deal earlier this year, and I regret it completely. Even though I kind of hate Ortliebs.

I have, in my feeble defense, commuted at least a few times with every bag listed above.

GP 03-27-11 06:57 PM

2. Zimbale 18L saddlebag on my primary commuter and a Detours backpack when I use the road bike or fixed gear.

Living in a small house = not collecting too much stuff.

DX-MAN 03-27-11 08:35 PM

I have:

1. Laptop backpack, useful for medium loads, or if I have to take the LT to the library (duh!).
2. Coleman hydration pack.
3. Vans messenger bag.
4. Outdoor brand waistpack, with two bottle carriers built in.

I also carry at least 2 of the re-useable shopping bags, in case I need to haul a bit; they sling well from the bar (FS MTB, no rear rack...yet; have a design in mind).

mikeybikes 03-27-11 09:05 PM

I have a Targus backpack for the laptop days, Alchemy Goods Pike bag for the light days and a Novara Commuter pannier.

Thinking of getting the matching pannier, but for now, I'm good.

bhop 03-27-11 09:20 PM

-Bailey Works super pro medium
-Chrome Metropolis
-Mission Workshop Vandal
-Acorn roll bag

That's all for cycling. I also have 4 camera bags, a regular jansport backpack, and a few military satchel/duffel bags that get occasional use.

commo_soulja 03-27-11 09:38 PM

Lessee... I have a pair of large panniers on the commuter, small panniers, a rack trunk bag and two messenger bags. The Ortliebs and trunk bag get the most use.
