my salsa casseroll frame is too big - what to replace it with?
 

I recently purchased a cannondale caad10 for roadie pursuits. in the process i learned that my salsa casseroll single commuter is a terribly poor fit. ( i had gone to a good bike shop and everything....arg!!!) i have the prev. rev casseroll frame which is unreasonably long - 60cm virtual top tube on a 57cm frame. otherwise i'd just get another but its not going to fit my short torso. my caad10 is a 52cm although i'm 5'10". hear "hm...long legs short torso" a lot while i was getting fit.

i'd like to strip my casseroll of parts and put them on a new frame. the current rev casseroll looks good (they fixed the odd geometry) but it has mounts for cantilever brakes and not standard road bakes.

anyone have advice on what to get?

If you don't want another Casseroll, take a look at the Soma ES. It uses the same long-reach caliper brakes as the Casseroll and is reasonably priced. Make sure that you get the new frame fitted properly, with the most important specs being the virtual (or horizontal) top tube length, seat tube ANGLE, and head tube length. At your height, a frame with a virtual 55-56 cm top tube will probably be in the ballpark. Sounds like the bike shop screwed up the fitting; unfortunately that is all too common.

I got one of the new Casserolls in early April and love it. The geometry is perfect for me because I like the tall head tube so my handlebar can run level with the saddle height. Don't let the canti brakes scare you away. They allow the Casseroll to run larger tires (up to 38 mm) and fenders; they also stop better than caliper brakes.

BTW, I am 5'11" and the 56 Casseroll fits me perfect. I also considered the Soma ES, but its headtube is much shorter and would have required the use of more spacers and a stem with more rise.
