So first one rides up next to me within 3 inches to pass. I catch up at the next stop sign, yell that they need 3 feet of clearance, state law. Then continue to land next to them. Land next to her at a light. Light turns green, she goes up a BIG hill and back down, I follow, get next to her at the stop sign, wave. Next light too. Next light she speeds, runs the yellow just in time, turns off the road.

The next one rolled up to me while I'm right next to a bunch of parked cars, then beeped her horn. I... gave her the finger.

When there were no longer parked cars in my way, I moved further right--you know, as far right as possible, it's not possible to go too far right with cars in your way on the right.

Then I passed her.

Then I outran her to the next stop sign.

There were like 6 cops hanging out at the intersection, she rolled up while I was waiting for a car to cross the intersection, and stopped to ask directions from the cops. I pointed at her car and told them she beeped her horn to get ME out of HER way, then rode off while they laughed.

Some of your stories make Baltimore sound like a battlefield.

So glad that's not the case here. Can't recall the last time someone maliciously beeped their horn at me.

I learned that traveling down Baltimore National Pike is a good way to get hit. People pass within mere inches constantly, and some have hit my arm with their mirrors. I was tempted to knock their mirrors off. So I don't go there anymore.

The roads I take are low traffic, though there's a back road that's not even safe in a car. People are crazy. I actually took that road on my bike today, came around a blind curve and almost got hit head on. I was in the right lane ... right in the center of the right lane, and a big SUV was coming around the curve 1/3 of the way crossed into the lane. I also nearly ... contributed to a few fatal accidents, because--as I'm traveling at 18-22mph--someone passed me coming up and into a blind curve, and didn't see the oncoming cars (which I saw). Said oncoming traffic made some pretty severe panic stops, while idiot passing me just cruised on by at full speed, trying to get back over in front of me (moving) before hitting them (stopped). I braked and pulled right; they just barely made the gap. That COULD have been a head-on collision for traveling the wrong way around a blind curve.

I've been passed like that while driving a car, too. This is the same road for which I've advised other cyclists of the paved bike path next to it, which was met with ... some level of hostility. I stand by my assertions that this road is dangerous in any mode of transportation that doesn't involve flying above the tree line.

I'm one of those weird people that's always slamming on my brakes and pulling crazy **** in my car while other cars around me are oblivious to the fact that they just ran a stop sign coming out behind a building and some parked trucks and nearly got my engine in their lap when they magically appeared in front of me, among other horrors. All these "good drivers" that "never have any trouble" ... while I'm doing rapid mirror checks and hard lane tosses wherever I can find an opening because someone just changed lanes into the exact spot where my car was just a second before I went and cut off some other guy at 70mph.

Let me get this straight...

A 2000 pound car passes you too closely, so you play games with it after telling her about the 3 foot law, which no one cares about or respects. Then, after harassing her and likely scaring her, she honks...so you respond by giving her the finger.

Classy and smart.

No, one 3250 pound car passed me too closely, so I repeatedly chased them. I didn't pass them too closely or crowd them at intersections.

A different car rode up behind me and honked their horn at me, when I had nowhere to go except ... well, further out in front of them, or into the opposing lane of traffic if I wanted to let 'em pass. I was already pedaling pretty hard trying to get past the parked cars so I could get further right and let traffic pass anyway, I just got beeped at by some impatient wench. I flipped her off, continued on my way until (about ONE SECOND later) I could physically move out of the way without traveling through solid matter, and then proceeded to catch up and outrun her car, then made fun of her in front of cops for being slow.

I still want to know, how the heck am I outrunning cars?

I have no problem harassing inconsiderate/mean-spirited/law breaking motorists after the guy that threw the beer at me. I make sure they know that it isn't appreciated and that I know them and their vehicle now. Just today some drunk moron got pissed because I was following the law and riding in the lane (no bike lane on 123 here). He proceeds to pull some ******** move and pass hastily in 5 oclock traffic, and then what does he do? No, he doesnt continue on his journey after losing .0005 seconds because of me, no, he gets in front of me and stops. The guy is like 65 and starts calling me names, so I tell him if he wants to do something, then get out of the effing car... Yeah, after the beer incident I bought a Taurus .380...

She just read some of your post in A&S and believed you when you claimed it is legal to ignore laws.

Did you know that Gandhi once lead a group of people to the sea, where he picked up a pinch of salt that had encrusted on the edge? Do you know why he did that? At the time, it was illegal to possess salt not produced by the state. He was deliberately and visibly committing a criminal violation of legal statute.

Why don't you go find out about that. Or about the population of a small, peripheral set of colonies that decided one day to destroy government property and refuse to pay taxes anymore.

Not that difficult during my commute :D Cars move like at 10 mph most of the time :)

And it happens to me all the time: people honk at me to pass and then I catch up with them at a light. I usually just look at them and smile. If I feel like it I'd ask "so what was the rush?". Most don't honk the second time though, I think they get it. I don't give people the finger unless they really piss me off. I think people are more likely to respond positively to some humor. And if I did give a finger to everyone who violates me I'd probably get tendonitis or joint inflammation in the finger.
