Just made what will essentially be my commute for the first time!

Today I rode ~13 miles to a store where I usually hang out with my friends. It took me about an hour, which wasn't bad at all (damn hilly terrain slowing me down). Since my job is only about 2 miles further than that, I now know what it'll be like to commute to it. Over the summer I"m planning on trying to ride to work once a week (I normally need a car for my job, so I really can't go much more often than that). Back at home now, I feel great and after a short shower I can't believe I rode 26 miles in a day. Having a road bike makes things so much easier...

One hour for 13mi is actually pretty good man! Congrats, and keep it up, it really will get easier. I ride 14 miles just for work, but I go everywhere on my bike (no car) and everyday I ride more and more and I'm loving it.

Nice!

For such a long commute, just make sure that you bring the emergency backup supplies with you like a patch kit, emergency tire pump, etc. :-)

Congrats on the ride. :thumb:

Cell phone, and giant hitch hiker thumb to prevent tardiness.

Hey, if you want to bike 26 miles and just sorta hope that if you get a flat you can get someone to pick you up who's not also going to work, that's your call. :-D I prefer to carry a little extra insurance with me - it's not like I'm suggesting he carry a spare frame with him, lol.
