Strange things seen on your commute.

The strange things found on your commute thread got me thinking about this, and I saw something on today's commute that definitely wasn't found. I drove today too, I just couldn't get everything done on time to ride and went a different way than usual. This route took me along a road that's not good for riding on (rough pavement, gravel shoulders, lot's of traffic) with fences in the back yards of the houses/apartments along the road. They recently put a sidewalk in along the road for the people that were walking/riding in the road there, and this morning I happened not notice lots and lots of bright pink along the sidewalk. There was a large woman wearing a bright pink dress on a small (probably 49cc) but bright pink scooter wobbling along the sidewalk. It was kind of scary and funny at the same time, and made me glad she wasn't on my usual route too.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to see something interesting like this, what else have you seen that's interesting like that?

There is a big, bald, tatooed biker (Harley type) looking guy on a pink scooter I see every so often on the way home. It is downright funny but I would never laugh.

I live and work in the suburbs. There's never anything interesting to see out here. That's definitely one thing I miss about living in the city.

Before tattoos got to be so trendy, it used to be the bigger and more tattooed the guy was the nicer they were. I bet he'd smile and wave back if you did the same and looked like you knew what you were doing.

An extremely large black bear waddling along on the mup at 10am.

Bet you are right, he probably would.

I'm posting these here because it more fits into this thread than in the original one I posted it in. Anyways, just some interesting grafitti I saw on my ride a couple of weeks ago...they have since been painted over by the city.

Today I drove, so bear with me. Anywho today I found a baby, a real live human baby. It was sitting in the rode beside a car. I almost didn't stop because at first all I saw was a baby carrier, and I though "who would leave a baby on the road, they must have just forgot the carrier". WRONGO!!! So I called 911 and they said they'd send someone out. About 5 minutes later a guy came running from a house or so over and I was like "IS THIS YOUR BABY??" He's like all sorry it's my sister's and I'm like I called 911 b/c I didn't know wtf to do. He's all sorry and thank you. Whatever. Made me late to work, but the parent inside me couldn't resist stopping to check. WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??

To make a mistake is one thing, but this one is going to leave a serious mark on someone's record.

You found a baby...

We have a winner. Good luck to anyone trying to beat that.

I have to say though that I am not sure you qualify since you were driving your auto when you found this prize.

making 06-30-11 01:42 PM

I say the baby is a winner. the OP just says commute, but not bicycle commute. I suppose someone could find the Swedish Bikini team or the Dallas Cheerleaders stranded by the road. But I think the baby wins.

osephjey 06-30-11 02:12 PM

Trust me...if it were cheerleaders, or any chicks in bikinis I would've been much happier

There is, and I think there's even another thread just like this hidden deep in the archives. But I figured that finding something implies keeping whatever inanimate object you found, and I really didn't want to keep the oversized Barbie on the scooter I found and figured I wouldn't be the only 1 to come across something like that. osephjey probably feels the same way too.

I'd say this is a winner too, and award you a copy of Raising Arizona if we had any prizes to pass out. I'd say you earned it today, and recommend you see the movie if you haven't.

Saturday on my ride into work I came across a group of guys getting ready to play cricket on the bike path. Never seen that before.

And since this was originally posted, someone left a baby in a car seat in the parking lot where my GF works. The mom had 4 or 5 kids, and set the baby in the car seat down on the parking lot while getting the rest of them in the car. She forgot about the one in the car seat and drove off, and another customer came in with the baby wondering who left their kid in the parking lot. The mom did come back to claim the kid, but I think she had a nice talk with the police too.

I was always so afraid I would forget one of my kids somewhere when they were little. Funny, now I try to forget them places but somehow they keep finding their way home. Oh well.

I am amazed that it doesn't happen more often.

It seemed like an honest mistake on her part from what I heard, but....
