MTX trunk bag mount onto non-Topeak rack mod?
Hi,
I have a MTX trunk bag and its great with my Topeak racks. However I have some bikes that can't fit the Topeak rack.
Is there a mod I can do to allow the MTX bag to slide on for non-Topeak racks? I'm thinking maybe attaching an aluminium extrusion, or folded sheet metal. Perhaps route a groove in some High Density Polyethylene and fixing that somehow.
Or maybe cut off the top of a cheapish Topeak rack and rivet than on. Any ideas?

Any reason why you don't want to just mount a Topeak rack? I mean, if you're considering buying one anyway, and riveting the top onto your current rack, why not? Is it some sort of family heirloom

The alternate rack I want to use the bag on mainly is an Old Man Mountain White Rock, which I bought as the only rack which would fit the canti bosses on a MTB. I would rather use Topeak than OMM but I need something sturdy.
I suppose I could weld some side plates on a Topeak rack to use the canti bosses. Hmm might be easier that way. BillP.

I don't have one myself, but doesn't the bag also have the velcro attachment straps as well? May not be as slick as the Q-R system, but still functional.
Or why not use p-clamps to mount the Topeak rack to the mtb?

Can anyone speak to how waterproof this bag is? It's in the running for a trunkbag for either me or my partner. We are both looking for one.
Also, can someone confirm that it can attach to a regular rack without the special quick release method? I admire the OP's idea for converting another rack to this system, but know my girlfriend wouldn't go for it!

They are not waterproof but a little rain won't hurt. I've ridden them in rain for my short 30 minute commute and my stuff didn't get wet. However I would not try longer than that or put phones, etc near the zippers.

MTX Trunk bag
I have one of these with the matching rack. However, the MTX does have Velcro strips on the sides and front to loop around a traditional rack.
