Sold the fixed gear for a Cross Check

Its a bitter sweet day. I had to part / sell my trusty IRO fixed gear to fund the new project. (I know I can convert the CC, but I'm going to keep it geared for now.)

I commute to work (15 mile round trip) daily and have been trying to do 100 mile weekends. Last Saturday I did a 140 mile ride to my hometown to visit the family. It was my first time doing more than a century.

Anyway, I was looking into the LHT, but after a few test rides, it seemed a little too clunky for my liking.

Thanks to these boards, I found tons of useful info.

Beautiful bike! Great choice. Your decision is very rationale, and considering your weekend distances, it would also be rational to keep your CC geared. You can always pick up a cheap fixie or convert a garbage find or a garage sell giveaway, etc.

The CC is the do EVERYTHING bike, IMO!

I think you made a very good choice. Yours looks GREAT!

Finding cheap Fixed in pretty easy these days, when and IF you ever wanted to!

Enjoy the new whip!

Nice bike, and nice picture. a lot of us think about the LHT, but the CC seems like the better bike for most of us.

+1

I wish I had taken a closer look at the fork when I picked up my CC a couple months ago. It doesn't have the mid fork eyelets for mounting a rack. I loaded up a couple of panniers and a tent (heavy) for a little mini tour last weekend and really wish I had some weight on the front wheel. It was a bit windy and the balance was way off. Felt like I was going to do wheelies if I pedaled too hard. Now I'm looking at buying a new fork with the eyelets.

Other than that it's a great all around bike. Rides like a Cadillac

Thanks guys! So far, so good. With just a few additions, this has become one of my favorite bike I've owned.

So far I've added: Salsa rear rack / Axiom panniers / Shwalbe Marathon Plus tires (38s) / and moved my B-17 over from another bike.

Not too much else to do, although I'd like to strip the decals off asap. (The Surly logo hurts my brain.) Thinking of maybe ordering some Pacer deacals if I want to have the Surly stamp in the future.

Just for kicks, here's the old IRO:

Cheers

This is something I've always felt too. For such an awesome company and product, how can Surly have such an awful logo? (Just my opinion. YMMV)
