Commuter Vids, Anyone?

Just curious how many of you have filmed your commutes? Where are they posted? I don't particularly like bike vids in general but there's something fascinating (for me) about seeing a commute. Country roads? City? Cows?

Haven't vidied any yet, but I know there are several members who mount Contour HD cameras on their commute.

I won't post any of my videos, they're for my own personal references, plus I'm not fond on how some BF members have a way of critiquing on how one should ride after seeing the poster's video.

Sometimes I post my commute vids. I keep all my stuff on Vimeo and I embed the vid here on BF.

Don't care what anyone thinks about how I ride, or if they like my music, etc.

I film all my commutes, but I only post short clips when incidents occur (never the entire thing).

I'm waiting on a new, all-weather helmet cam to ship on the 20th. During my first year of commuting, I had my handheld mounted to my bars. Recorded a lot of interesting things, but since it's a SD cam that I can't reasonably mount to my helmet, most of the footage was just too shaky to be usable, in particular, the unreadable license plates.

I'm eager to get footage again...provided it's not my own untimely demise. ;)

I just got a Contour recently and mount it on my helmet. I made it a habit to film all my commute. A majority of them gets deleted. I do post short clips in my Youtube but they are unlisted except for times when I do provide links. I rather not have too much detail of my route out in public. The video are more for my own safety use than they are for general viewing.

Any reason so many members here have the contour over the gopro?

The contour looks much more sleek in application.

I think the GoPro has better and more features than the Contour. It has still image, time laspe, a LCD piggy back option and I believe the brightness can be adjust without a computer, although I may have a quick fix for that in my Contour. I set mine on a brighter scale for my morning darkness ride and reset it at my work computer for the afternoon sun. However if I do not have computer access than I will try to screw on a Neutral density filter onto the optional threaded lens so that the lights will get cut down and not have over expose video in the sun.

I chosed a Contour for several different reasons. It was the mounting on my helmet and Amazon sale price that lead me to buy it. My helmet has a flashlight which means the camera will be mounted on the side. The sleek profile of the contour seem more fitting. The larger on/off recording button is nice when using gloves.

Don't know what editing software GoPro provide, but the Contour storyteller is not a editing software whatsoever. So most likely you will need a editing software for the Contour.

I'm flyin'! ;)

My morning commute is super boring. I try to spice things up with my helmet light but otherwise it's one big YAWN as this small sample from a portion of my commute will prove.......(don't fall asleep).

My afternoon commute does get a little bit more interesting.

After watching the previously posted videos, I can handle those scenarios rather comfortably. I'm half tempted to post some of my close calls, but I don't wish to be a contributing factor in turning this thread into a "Can You Top This" free for all.

JeffSG 07-17-11 12:29 PM

Come on dynodonn...throw out a couple of your best ones to keep our interest. You will only make it a "free for all" if you add commentary putting down the other videos.

Ride safe,

Jeff

So are we moving from commute vids to incident vids? I'll enter:

Better now, but my commute used to be one long incident.
