Is this reasonable?

Hi, I know there are a thousand of these posts in this forum, but is 200 a reasonable price for this bike? What should I be able to expect to barter down to?

thanks

I think thats too much. If you really like that bike for some reason if its in great shape $150 wouldn't be too bad. It looks like (from looking real quick on Craigslist in your area) you can get something similar for around $100 if you look around. I have a Trek Police bike I snagged a couple years ago for $25 at a garage sale.

Wear on chainring and cassette?

$100 would be a very good price. I'd go up to $150 tops if you're really in love with it and it fits you perfectly.

Really tough to judge those police bikes. The 2004 retailed for $850 and ran 9-speed. The 2009 retailed for $1200 and ran 8-speed.

It does have the silent freehub body. I seem to remember those costing quite a bit back in the day when they were actually marketed to the general public.

EDITED out last line because I see that ad mentions replacement cogset comes with bike. Still have to worry about chainrings though.

From what I understand some police bikes are spec'd to what is ordered so it could be really nice or it could be lower than what Trek has listed for these bikes which is generally above average. From looking on Trek's website the newest it could be is a 2004 judging by the pics of the frames. For what its worth the seller seems fairly knowledgeable and honest abotu the bike which is worth something. If it was used on the job and then as a commuter its going to have some miles on it so keep that in mind.

I don't think you should judge this bike by someone else's $25 super deal (no offense monsterpile. Just sayin'.). All the rest of the advice seems sound though. From the pic, it is a nice looking bike. I spent Friday night riding near a few of those Trek Police bikes, and the riders seemed to like them.

I am not offended, but I guess I should clarify the $25 for my police bike was a killer deal it was in no way meant to be a barometer for what someone else should pay. I just mentioning it because I have spent some time researching Trek Police bikes before since I have one and it was/is a good bike despite seeing better days. It needs some love now and I have retired it from commuting duty because I have bikes that fit better now. I am going to have it as a do it all loaner bike once I get it ready to ride again because part of me doesn't want to let it go.

I like them. If I ever see a good deal on one that fits, I'll probably have one.
