My city is great for commuting
I was riding home the other day and it dawned on me that my city is incredibly bike friendly, especially in light of reading of the horrors that some people go through on their daily commute.
I rarely ever get honked at, I've never had someone yell at me (except another cyclist [I go about 500 ft the wrong way on a one way street through campus on my way home and this cyclist wasn't pleased about that]), cars rarely get within 3 feet of me (the one time I got hit it was definitely my fault), and the city has done a wonderful job of creating bike lanes and MUPs. Just felt like I should give some GOOD news about commuting to counteract some of the bad. |
Don't you have decent weather there too? That's funny about the other cyclist yelling at you. I would probably stare but would wave.

I love Flagstaff! You are lucky to live there!

I think that most incidents people have with motorists are the exceptions. Still, you never know when some JAM is going to have a bad day and take it out on the cyclist.

Nice to see places that give us all hope :)

I hear you, it sounds pretty negative here sometimes, and I'm sure it is a battle for some people.
But here in Ft. Collins riding is pretty mellow. My only yelling has also been with another cyclist and it just happened last night. I was riding without lights and so was he, but I was in the right lane, and he was in my lane also, doing the salmon. I called out "nice ninja" because it was the first thing that came to my mind, he swerved over and skidded and and yelled back "nice light". I started laughing at that, we were both in the wrong (I was going half a mile to get some lights before going on) but yelling at someone nice lights when you are not running any yourself is just wrong twice. |
