Denver To Golden Route
Anyone else here ride on 26th. I just started riding to work and I have to see a good 10 to 15 bikers a day using this route as well.

I ride from the south on in to downtown. I have the DBTC Map and City of Denver Map, both of these are excellent resources for figuring out how to get around.
In the DBTC Map, I can see a south route. It is not as direct shot, but would include a few miles on the Lakewood Gulch trail.

26th or 20th are good routes for going to the Applewood area. Both have pretty good on street bike lanes. Once you get to Youngfield in Applewood, if you want to continue into Golden, go from 26th to 20th and continue out west into the Denver West Office Park. If you want to avoid the traffic on Youngfield, you can take the first right south of 26th and then take the first left before the bridge over I-70. This will put you on a quiet side street that goes straight to 20th.
If you need to go to Golden proper, I'd continue on Denver West Blvd. past the Marriot (at the light) and past the 4-way stop about a block up the road to the NREL entry road. If you go about a 1/4 mile further (before you get to the NREL guard shack) there is a striped walk on the road. To your left, at the end of that crosswalk, is a set of stairs that lead to a short dirt path. Follow that path to Isabell and ride it south to Golden Road. From there follow Golden Road all the way to Golden.
Word of caution about Golden Road: It has 4 round abouts on it and a lot of clueless people. You can jog up to 10 Ave. at Moss if you don't want to deal with the round-abouts. Just turn at Earle Johnson Road when you go over the hill and that will take you back to Golden Road.
On the way home, I'd ride back on 26th unless you really need some hill training - 20th is really steep!
I would second RicardoJM's suggestion of a DBTC map. There are a lot of options to get to Golden depending on where you start.
