The little pas de deux that you do when the car on the right has the right of way but waves you through...only to turn right behind you and pass you impatiently.

Ah yes. The ol' "Wave n Squeeze."

When cyclists whizz on by without a tink from a bell or a kindly "On your left!"

Yesterday took the cake. Going up hill and this wise crack on an electric bike passes me very close, going at least thirty. You better believe you me that I told him &^%%^%%$! when I met him at the light.

Don't get me wrong...I'm all for enforcing the bike lane, but come on...really?

Did you attempt to get the fee lowered by pleading guilty as charged and giving the judge the reasons for your parking your vehicle. I had a $800.00 fine lowered to $75.00: I guess at the time the judge felt that this was an unreasonable fine!

I'll admit to being an ocassional sidewalk rider.
1.5 miles to the grocery store, on my grocery cruiser (big Wald basket, upright bars, etc.) going about 7mph even if there's no one around. No need to claim a lane during rush hour when I can blend perfectly well with pedestrian traffic and be a nuisance to neither driver nor ped.
Most of the time I'm out in the roadway, but sometimes I just like to tootle about on my grocery bike; no kit, no gloves, no helmet, sandals, just rolling around with no real goal.

PJones0012 08-02-11 03:43 PM

Yup, that would be me on major streets. Deal with it.

When I ride past a fenced in dog park, a dog runs up to the fence chasing me barking and the owner says to the dog "Get the bike, get the bike". (I care Mace for just the reason).

In Chicago You don't get to go before a real judge, and the "judge" doesn't have any discretion. There are only 7 reasons to dismiss a ticket. And rendering aid to a barely conscious person lying in the street isn't one of them. Its just a money making scheme for the city, they don't care what the reason is. The crazy thing is I was 100 feet away back at the intersection waiting for the ambulance and never even saw the parking officer. Watch out they are like ninjas who don't wear the requires safety vest when working the streets.

So the Mace is for the owner and not the dog. You really can't blame a dog for the stupidity of the owner.

Bicycle lanes/shoulders used for deposition of shattered silica vessels.

True, although it works if the dog is locked in mortal combat with your foot/ankle.

People in general... I'm all dressed up in my commuter stuff, helmet, gloves... "Riding your bike?" or "I used to ride to work, then I got a car."

This doesn't bother me at all. I know I can hold my line, and I am sure someone passing me will as well, so what's the problem?

I think that having more cyclists riding is our goal here, by having this superior pro attitude the beginners may never learn to love the sport and for fear avoid the street all together! All it takes is a pothole in the road or his using the drop shifters to shift to have the cyclist being passed veer into you the passer. Your cavalier attitude is menacing to me. Forewarn and keep a wide birth, everyone is kept happy. Course you want to look behind you before passing, in case there would be any cars that may want to trample your good intentions!
Perhaps it's just too late for you to learn some common courtesy?

People who need new serpentine belts. I can hold a line when overtaken by a dump truck with the best of them, but somehow I am reduced to a basket case when I hear a the banshee-like shriek of a sub compact with a loose fan belt.

No, but I carry it for the dog I may encounter on the street, not when they are in a fenced area. And yes, it would work just as well on the owner if they have a problem with me macing their dog and I defended myself.

Bikers who ride side by side in the right side of the car lane even though there is a bike lane, because they want to talk

Big time.

AlphaDogg 08-06-11 03:59 PM

People who honk at you for being in the bike lane in a city where it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk. In the aforementioned city, the only options are to be in the rightmost lane (taking up as much of the lane as the rider deems necessary), the shoulder, or a bike lane.

What really pissed me off is when I was riding in the street, taking up very little of the rightmost lane (that was my mistake) and a motorist in an industrial van tried to pass me without merging to the next lane. Once he realized that he couldn't pass me because the van took up the entire lane (he realized this after coming within inches of hitting me), he tried to merge into the next lane. But there was a vehicle next to him in said lane. So I got an earful of angry honks, and none of which were at me. I gave the van driver a look of disbelief and he waved at me. I felt like giving him the finger!

AlphaDogg 08-06-11 04:01 PM

Rocks in the bike lane because cars kick them up there and the city can't (or won't) clean the streets.

bicyclejaune 08-06-11 10:46 PM

ok here's a another one...

when parked cars suddenly open their door leaving you with two choices :
1) you try to brake and risk crashing in the freaking door,
2) you try going into the center of the lane to dodge the door and risk being hit by a freaking car from behind,

now that just grinds my gears!!!!!!!!!!!

argggggggggggg!!!
