[QUOTE=KD5NRH;13021863]Why not just get some MTB cargo shorts that already have the padding?[QUOTE]

+1 I've got several different pairs. Mostly from touring purchases. When commuting to a work environment I err on the side of caution re rockin' the lycra. It's a matter of personal preference. The bandanas, shirts, socks and shoes are always cycling specific and I change completely into work clothes upon arrival. My bike is stored in a closet just off my work area and I hang all my cycling gear on the bike. Everything's dry by the time I'm ready to leave.

Yes, I know how fortunate I am. :)

Wait, you mean I shouldn't wear my cycling clothing to the opera?

No offense, but your #1 priority seems to be appearance. The baggy shorts are superfluous.

Well, I guess I'm "that guy". My commute is a 12+ mile round trip.

I wear cycling shorts and jersey. In the winter I swap the shorts for tights. Nothing else under the shorts/tights.

For summer commuting I wear compression shorts for undies with regular cargo shorts. My commute is 14 miles each way, so I try to stay as comfortable as possible. The compression shorts are similar to biking undies minus the pads. For winter commuting I wear compression pants under my bike riding pants. I like the compression shorts/pants because they keep everything nice and snug. With boxers there is too much movement.

Target Champion briefs, Costco convertibles and a performance wear moisture wicking t-shirt (usually also from Costco or Target). :thumb:

Thanks for the input, everyone. I picked up some Champion boxer-breifs yesterday. Wore them under casual shorts this morning and they were perfect.

Cheers.

I wear cycling shorts and a jersey too so I am also "that guy". Although my commute is 20+ miles each way, does this give me an exception to being that guy?

Yup. And I'll be wearing bicycle specific clothing in the winter too because the stuff does what it's designed to do better than anything else.

It depends on your application and your unique wants & needs. Cycling shorts/bibs, for example, are decidedly not the right tool for the job for the majority of my day-to-day utility/commuting purposes and obviously the OP feels the same. YMMV ;)

It's summer and it's hot. I wear padded lycra under my shorts / pants the rest of the year, but it's just way too hot to do that now. I really try to not ride in just cycling shorts / jersey unless I'm putting in some serious miles. (I try to not be THAT guy wearing a full kit on a 7 mile commute to work.)

I have a 14 mile commute RT and I wear a kit and carry my work clothes on a rack. I don't care about being "that guy", if it's hot a kit is cooler and I'm more comfortable. I sweat and my clothes don't stink. I'd rather do that than be "that guy that stinks because he rode his bike into work wearing his work clothes"

Just the usual tighty-whities for me. I carry a fresh pair to work in case I want to change after I arrive, but except on the really warm/humid mornings, "things dry out" on their own, soon enough, in the air conditioned office that I work in. Then again, if there wasn't air conditioning, what would be the point of changing anyway?

sevenlas 08-03-11 05:32 PM

Target Champion briefs

THESE!!!!

i can not recommend them enough. I got rid of all my hanes/fotl crap for these. they are comfortable. quick dry and they don't make your undies look like you crap your pants during the ride and walking around with a few pounds of dodo.

old's'cool 08-03-11 07:31 PM

Whoa! I had no idea... at least now I know why peeps are pointing & snickering at me when I get into work!

irwin7638 08-04-11 07:53 AM

I like the champion boxer briefs. They're abou 1/2 the cost of UA and just as comfortable.

That's fine, dude. I've got showers at my office.

Wear what you want, I just would rather wear shorts and a tshirt / change into work clothes after I shower.

Cheers.
